Professor Jeong Yoon Park's research lab focuses on spinal disorders, particularly degenerative spinal conditions such as ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL), spondylolisthesis, and disc degeneration. The lab investigates the genetic, biomechanical, and molecular mechanisms underlying spinal degeneration, with an emphasis on pelvic parameters, adjacent-segment disease, and gene expression profiles in intervertebral discs. Additionally, the lab explores genetic polymorphisms related to disease susceptibility, particularly in relation to DNA repair pathways and cancer risk. The integration of clinical spine surgery with molecular and genetic research defines the lab’s translational approach.

Minimally invasive surgery with a transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS TLIF) is an important minimally invasive fusion technique for the lumbar spine. Lumbar spine reoperation is challenging and is thought to have greater complication risks.
