Professor Jeonggi Kim's research lab focuses on viral pathogenesis, host-virus interactions, and the molecular mechanisms underlying infectious diseases, particularly influenza and flaviviruses such as Zika virus. The lab investigates host factors involved in viral entry and immune evasion, including cytoskeletal proteins like vimentin as viral receptors, and explores host-derived factors that modulate antiviral immunity. A key research direction involves understanding how maternal antibodies interfere with vaccine efficacy in young animals, with implications for improving vaccination strategies. The lab also examines the role of cellular structural proteins and nuclear architecture in disease pathogenesis, including lamin A/C and cytoskeletal dynamics in mechanotransduction and viral infection.

We produced a monoclonal antibody (MAb) (7G10) that has blocking activity against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). In this study, we identified the components of the 7G10 MAb-bound complex as cytoskeletal filaments: vimentin, cytokeratin 8, cytokeratin 18, actin, and hair type II basic keratin.
