Professor Jeonghwan Baek's research lab specializes in diagnostic and interventional radiology with a focus on advanced medical imaging techniques and minimally invasive interventions for head and neck pathologies. The lab investigates the clinical utility of combined imaging modalities such as PET/CT and ultrasound-guided procedures in improving the accuracy of diagnosis and treatment planning for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, tuberculous lymphadenitis, and vascular malformations. Key research directions include optimizing image-guided interventions, enhancing diagnostic sensitivity through molecular testing on cytological samples, and developing innovative surgical approaches with improved cosmetic and functional outcomes. BACKGROUND: Despite its well-established usefulness in the diagnosis of cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis, fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) has several limitations in its clinical applications, especially when the presence of acid-fast bacilli is not proven. Basal cell adenomas of the parotid gland present as small well-marginated tumors and appear as masses with central large cysts or solid masses with microcysts on CT and MR imaging scans. Basal cell adenomas of the parotid gland had at least 2 different enhancement patterns on the 2-phase helical CT scans, and the enhancement patterns and imaging architecture were related to the histologic subtype of the tumors.
