Professor Ji Won Han's research lab specializes in geriatric neuroscience, with a primary focus on understanding and intervening in the progression of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. The lab investigates the predictive validity of MCI subtypes, develops and evaluates multimodal non-pharmacological therapies such as Multimodal Cognitive Enhancement Therapy (MCET), and explores the impact of psychiatric comorbidities in neurodegenerative disorders like Parkinson’s disease. The lab emphasizes person-centered, evidence-based psychosocial interventions to improve cognitive outcomes and reduce caregiver burden.

Vascular brain injury and neurodegeneration are associated with baseline cognitive performance and the rate of longitudinal change independent of amyloid status among community-dwelling, ethnicity diverse cognitively normal individuals, supporting the role of vascular diseases as risk factors for later-life dementia.
USMART was effective in improving memory and was well tolerated by most participants with MCI, suggesting that it may be a convenient and cost-effective alternative for the cognitive rehabilitation of elderly subjects with cognitive impairments. Further studies with large numbers of participants are necessary to examine the relationship between the number of training sessions and the improvements in memory function.
