研究室紹介

Professor Jin Ha Yoon's research lab focuses on occupational and environmental health, with a strong emphasis on the impact of workplace exposures—such as noise, long working hours, and hazardous materials like crystalline silica—on mental and physical health outcomes. The lab integrates epidemiological data with advanced machine learning techniques, particularly deep learning models, to improve early detection of diseases like tuberculosis using medical imaging and demographic data. Research also explores the societal burden of rare diseases and health disparities, especially among vulnerable populations such as young women and low socioeconomic groups. The lab’s interdisciplinary approach bridges public health, environmental science, and artificial intelligence to inform preventive health policies.

Deep Learning Algorithms with Demographic Information Help to Detect Tuberculosis in Chest Radiographs in Annual Workers’ Health Examination Data
Seok‐Jae Heo, Yangwook Kim, Sehyun Yun, Sung‐Shil Lim, Jihyun Kim, Chung Mo Nam, Eun‐Cheol Park, Inkyung Jung, Jin‐Ha Yoon
SJR Q2International Journal of Environmental Research and Public HealthOA

We aimed to use deep learning to detect tuberculosis in chest radiographs in annual workers’ health examination data and compare the performances of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) based on images only (I-CNN) and CNNs including demographic variables (D-CNN). The I-CNN and D-CNN models were trained on 1000 chest X-ray images, both positive and negative, for tuberculosis. Feature extraction was conducted using VGG19, InceptionV3, ResNet50, DenseNet121, and InceptionResNetV2. Age, weight, hei

BACKGROUND: The burden of rare diseases on society and patients' families has increased in Korea. However, because of the infrequency of rare diseases, there is a lack of resources and information to address these cases and inadequate funding for the management of these patients. We investigated the average annual cumulative incidence of rare diseases and the trends in annual cumulative incidence from 2011 to 2015 in Korea by using nationwide administrative data from the Korean National Health I

Occupational Noise Annoyance Linked to Depressive Symptoms and Suicidal Ideation: A Result from Nationwide Survey of Korea
Jin‐Ha Yoon, Jong‐Uk Won, Wanhyung Lee, Pil Kyun Jung, Jaehoon Roh
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Our study shows that occupational noise annoyance is significantly related to mental health, including depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation after controlling for individual and socio-demographic characteristics even with gender stratification. However, prospective studies with quantified noise exposure assessment were needed to elucidate the causality on the association between noise annoyance and psychological symptoms.

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Workplace gender discrimination was found to be significantly associated with depressive symptoms after adjustment for socio-demographic factors. Further, women under 40 years of age were especially vulnerable to workplace gender discrimination.

Relationship between Long Working Hours and Suicidal Thoughts: Nationwide Data from the 4th and 5th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Jin‐Ha Yoon, Pil Kyun Jung, Jaehoon Roh, Hongdeok Seok, Jong‐Uk Won
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

In this study, long working hours were linked to suicidal thoughts for both genders. Additionally, the odds of those suicidal thoughts were higher for lower socioeconomic groups. To prevent adverse psychological health problems such as suicidal thoughts, a strategy regarding long working hours should be investigated.

SJR Q1Occupational and Environmental MedicineOA

Crystalline silica is a widely used industrial material that is readily available worldwide, and is one of the most common types of particulate mineral pollutants. It has been classified as a group 1 human carcinogen of the respiratory system; however, whether it is linked to gastric cancer remains uncertain. We conducted a systemic review and meta-analyses to search for evidence of the relationship between gastric cancer and occupational exposure to crystalline silica. We searched for articles

Does High Emotional Demand with Low Job Control Relate to Suicidal Ideation among Service and Sales Workers in Korea?
Jin‐Ha Yoon, Da-Yee Jeung, Sei Jin Chang
SJR Q2Journal of Korean Medical ScienceOA

We examined the relationship of high emotional demands and low job control to suicidal ideation among service and sales workers in Korea. A total of 1,995 service and sales workers participated in this study. Suicidal ideation and level of emotional demand and job control were assessed by self-reported questionnaire in 4th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Gender-specific odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) for suicidal ideation were calculated using logi

Poor Lung Function Has Inverse Relationship with Microalbuminuria, an Early Surrogate Marker of Kidney Damage and Atherosclerosis: The 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
Jin‐Ha Yoon, Jong‐Uk Won, Yeon-Soon Ahn, Jaehoon Roh
SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

Our study, the first investigation in Asia, demonstrated that the restrictive pattern is related to MAU in men. Furthermore, there was linear relationship between lower FVC and UACR. Thus, our current study suggests that poor lung function, particularly the restrictive pattern, is related to kidney damage as well as atherosclerosis.

SJR Q1Journal of Occupational HealthOA

OBJECTIVE: This study attempted to use the community health survey (CHS) to identify the effect of long working hours (long WHs) and night/shift work on suicidal ideation among the employed population of Korea. METHODS: This study used data from 67,471 subjects who were administered the 2008 CHS which obtained information regarding sociodemographic characteristics, health behaviors and working environment, using structured questionnaires and personal interviews. We adopted multiple logistic regr

A brief review of relationship between occupational benzene exposure and hematopoietic cancer
Jin‐Ha Yoon, Woo Seok Kwak, Yeon-Soon Ahn
SJR Q2Annals of Occupational and Environmental MedicineOA

We reviewed articles to clarify the current evidence status for 1) types of cancer which related to benzene exposure, and 2) certain benzene exposure level which might cause the hematopoietic cancers. Hematopoietic function of the bone marrow is involved in the production of all blood cells types. The benzene metabolites including benzoquinone and mucoaldehyde affect hematopoietic stem cells as well as differentiation steps of progenitor cells for each blood cell. Hence, we concluded that benzen

SJR Q1The American Journal of Gastroenterology

INTRODUCTION: New terminologies of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) have been developed. We assessed hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk across MASLD and/or alcohol intake. METHODS: We included participants aged 40-79 years receiving a national health checkup from 2009 to 2010 in the Republic of Korea, classified as follows: non-MASLD, MASLD, MASLD with increased alcohol intake (MetALD; weekly alcohol 210-420 g for male and 140-350 g for female individuals), and a
