Professor Jin Joo Park's research lab focuses on cardiovascular disease mechanisms, particularly heart failure phenotypes, risk factor progression, and clinical outcomes in diverse patient populations. The lab investigates longitudinal changes in left ventricular ejection fraction, the impact of comorbidities like diabetes mellitus on cardiac function, and the application of advanced imaging and artificial intelligence in diagnosing acute conditions such as appendicitis. A key emphasis is on improving risk stratification and personalized management in acute heart failure through biomarkers, hemodynamic parameters, and machine learning models.

15The cardiovascular disease continuum begins with risk factors such as diabetes mellitus (DM), progresses to vasculopathy and myocardial dysfunction, and finally ends with cardiovascular death. Diabetes is associated with a 2- to 4-fold increased risk for heart failure (HF). Moreover, HF patients with DM have a worse prognosis than those without DM. Diabetes can cause myocardial ischemia via micro- and macrovasculopathy and can directly exert deleterious effects on the myocardium. Hyperglycemia,
Background Many patients with heart failure ( HF ) with reduced ejection fraction ( HF r EF ) experience improvement or recovery of left ventricular ejection fraction ( LVEF ). Data on clinical characteristics, outcomes, and medical therapy in patients with HF with improved ejection fraction (HFiEF) are scarce. Methods and Results Of 5625 consecutive patients hospitalized for acute HF in the KorAHF (Registry [Prospective Cohort] for Heart Failure in Korea) study, 5103 patients had baseline echoc
The prevalence of HF has been increasing in Korea. With improvement of therapy, the prognosis of HF has been improving, too. Nonetheless, appropriate interventions are necessary to prevent HF.
Acute appendicitis is one of the most common causes of abdominal emergencies. We investigated the feasibility of a neural-network-based diagnosis algorithm of appendicitis by using computed tomography (CT) for patients with acute abdominal pain visiting the emergency room (ER). A neural-network-based diagnostic algorithm of appendicitis was developed and validated using CT data from three institutions who visited the ER with abdominal pain and underwent abdominopelvic CT. For input data, 3D isot
Background Many patients with heart failure ( HF ) experience changes in left ventricular ejection fraction ( LVEF ) during follow‐up. We sought to evaluate the predictors and outcomes of different HF phenotypes according to longitudinal changes in EF . Methods and Results A total of 2104 patients with acute HF underwent echocardiography at baseline and follow‐up. Global longitudinal strain was measured at index admission. HF phenotypes were defined as persistent HF with reduced EF (persistent H
AIMS: In acute heart failure (AHF) patients, pulmonary oedema and low tissue perfusion may lead to changes in the acid-base balance, which may be associated with worse outcomes. METHODS AND RESULTS: In this prospective nationwide cohort study from 24 academic hospitals, arterial blood gas (ABG) was measured in 1982 AHF patients at hospital admission. Acidosis was defined as pH <7.36, and alkalosis as pH >7.44. Mortality was stratified according to ABG results. Overall, 19% had acidosis, 37% had
The D2D time was not associated with clinical outcomes in a large prospective cohort of patients with AHF who were presenting to an ED. (Registry [Prospective Cohort] for Heart Failure in Korea [KorAHF]; NCT01389843).
Heart failure (HF) is a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body's needs for blood and oxygen. Thus, HF is a grave disease with high morbidity and mortality. Because the prevalence of and exposure to the risk factors for HF increase with age, the prevalence of HF has been increasing in an aging society, including Korea. The vast advancement of medical and device therapy has improved the outcomes of HF, but significant residual risk still exists, and the benefi
Background Worsening renal function ( WRF ) is associated with adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure. We investigated the predictors and prognostic value of WRF during admission, in patients with preserved ejection fraction ( HF p EF ) versus those with reduced ejection fraction ( HF r EF ). Methods and Results A total of 5625 patients were enrolled in the KorAHF (Korean Acute Heart Failure) registry. WRF was defined as an absolute increase in creatinine of ≥0.3 mg/ dL . Transient WRF
