Professor Jin-kyu Lee's research lab focuses on translational biomedical research with a strong emphasis on orthopedic surgery, particularly total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in younger and rheumatoid arthritis patients, exploring long-term outcomes and preoperative interventions. The lab also investigates molecular mechanisms underlying congenital muscular dystrophies, especially the role of glycosylation enzymes like GnT-Vb in neural development and disease. Additionally, the lab explores patient-centered health technologies, such as virtual reality for anxiety reduction in surgical patients and the impact of public emergencies on e-government service adoption. These diverse yet interconnected research directions reflect a commitment to improving clinical outcomes through molecular biology, clinical innovation, and health systems research.

PURPOSE: To assess the effect of a preoperative virtual reality (VR) experience of 3-dimensional (3D) reconstructed magnetic resonance images (MRIs) on anxiety reduction in patients undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Bone defects are occasionally encountered during primary total knee replacement (TKR) and cause difficulty in establishing a stable well-aligned bone-implant interface. Between March 1999 and November 2005, 59 knees in 43 patients underwent primary TKR with a metal block augmentation for tibial bone deficiency.
