Professor Jiyoung Han's research lab specializes in biomaterials and regenerative dentistry, focusing on the development of advanced materials and surface engineering strategies to enhance implant integration, periodontal health, and tissue regeneration. The lab investigates the role of nano- and micro-scale surface topographies—particularly titanium dioxide (TiO₂) patterns—in improving fouling resistance and biocompatibility of medical membranes and implants. Key research directions include guided bone and tissue regeneration, sinus augmentation, ridge preservation, and the clinical application of bone grafts and collagen membranes in oral implantology. The lab also explores the interplay between host immune responses and biomaterials, particularly in the context of inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and periodontitis.

15We present a nonconventional membrane surface modification approach that utilizes surface topography to manipulate the tribology of foulant accumulation on water desalination membranes via imprinting of submicron titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) pillar patterns onto the molecularly structured, flat membrane surface. This versatile approach overcomes the constraint of the conventional approach relying on interfacial polymerization that inevitably leads to the formation of ill-defined surface topography.
There are limited data, however, to suggest that anti-TNF-α agents can reduce local production of inflammatory cytokines and periodontal inflammation in RA patients with periodontitis.
After orthodontic treatment, clinical parameters were improved in the FA and CAT groups with meticulous oral hygiene education and plaque control. Regarding plaque index and gingival index, no significant differences were found between these two groups. We suggest that combined periodontal and orthodontic treatment can improve patients' periodontal health irrespective of orthodontic techniques.

Although fixed retainers were bonded in periodontitis patients, periodontal health was well maintained if supportive periodontal treatment with repeated oral hygiene education was provided. The purpose of this study was to determine whether ATP-sensitive potassium channel (K(ATP) channel) activation generates oxygen free radicals in the rabbit heart. We assayed malondialdehyde (MDA) in rabbit heart slices in vitro as an indicator of oxygen free radical generation.
