Professor Jo Yang-seon's research lab specializes in epidemiological and clinical studies of otorhinolaryngological disorders in the Korean population, with a focus on hearing impairment, dizziness, facial palsy, and tuberculous otitis media. The lab conducts large-scale, nationally representative surveys to assess the prevalence, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of these conditions, emphasizing population-based health data and patient-centered outcomes. Their work bridges clinical otology with public health, aiming to inform clinical practice and health policy through rigorous epidemiological analysis. The lab also investigates patient satisfaction and quality of life in relation to otological interventions, supporting evidence-based decision-making in otolaryngology.

Narrow internal auditory canal (IAC) syndrome is a malformation of the temporal bone, that is defined as an IAC diameter of only 1-2 mm on high-resolution computed tomographic scans (HRCT). This syndrome is known to be caused by the absence (aplasia or hypoplasia) of the vestibulocochlear nerve. We present a case of unilateral narrow IAC syndrome which was diagnosed by HRCT. The aplasia of the vestibulocochlear nerve was confirmed using parasigittal reconstruction magnetic resonance image (MRI).
Pitch discrimination, melody identification, and timbre identification in CI users showed a wide range of perceptual abilities. The mean pitch change discrimination difference limen (DL) for the base frequency of 262 Hz (middle C) was 2.7 +/- 1.7 semitones: 4.4 +/- 4.2 semitones for 330 Hz (E4) and 8.1 +/- 3.0 semitones for 391 Hz (G4) in CI listeners.
