Professor Jongsup Hong's research lab specializes in advanced materials and electrochemical systems for sustainable energy conversion and carbon utilization. The lab focuses on developing novel catalysts and electrode architectures for protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) and solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOECs), with an emphasis on enabling efficient, stable, and coke-resistant operation using methane and CO₂ as feedstocks. Key research directions include bimetallic and alloy catalysts (e.g., Ni–Rh, Ni–Co) for dry reforming of methane and dry CO₂ electrolysis, as well as microstructural engineering of electrodes to control local gas environments and suppress carbon deposition. The lab integrates materials synthesis, in situ characterization, and performance evaluation to advance clean energy technologies with high energy efficiency and durability.
