研究室紹介

Professor Jun Ho Choi's research lab focuses on advancing minimally invasive surgical techniques in thyroid surgery, particularly endoscopic and robotic approaches such as the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA), with an emphasis on optimizing surgical outcomes, cosmetic results, and patient safety. The lab also explores innovative applications of laser technology for scar management in thyroid surgery and investigates novel materials for energy storage, including flexible graphene stacks for sodium-ion batteries. These diverse research directions reflect a strong commitment to improving both surgical precision and biomedical materials innovation.

INTRODUCTION: Endoscopic techniques have recently been applied in thyroid surgery using cervical, axillary, and breast approaches. We modified the axillo-bilateral breast approach (ABBA) and developed the bilateral axillo-breast approach (BABA) to obtain optimal visualization for total thyroidectomy. METHODS: We used two 12-mm ports through bilateral circumareolar incisions for flexible videoscopy and Harmonic scalpel and two 5-mm ports through both axillae for graspers and dissectors. Thyroidec

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic thyroidectomies have been performed using various approaches, and indications have expanded with the development of new surgical techniques and instruments. Endoscopic thyroid surgery using bilateral axillo-breast approaches have excellent cosmetic results and a symmetrical, optimal operative view. However, because of the two-dimensional view and the nonflexible instruments, these approaches are not easy to use in performing a central lymph node dissection (CND). Robotic s

A new 1,550-nm fractional erbium-glass laser may efficiently repress the formation and hypertrophy of thyroidectomy scars on the neck, and it can be safely applied in relatively dark Asian skin without noticeable adverse effects.

SJR Q2ChemElectroChem

Abstract Flexible graphene stacks (FGSs) were prepared as a practically useful anode material for sodium‐ion batteries (SIBs). The FGSs not only exhibited good electrical and mechanical properties, but also showed exceptional sodium‐ion storage capability by utilizing a co‐intercalated charge carrier. In addition, SIBs based on FGSs and a previously reported cathode pair exhibited high specific energy and power of approximately 107.7 Wh kg −1 and 2050 W kg −1 , respectively, with stable cycling

Endoscopic thyroidectomy is a safe and feasible alternative as compared with conventional open thyroidectomy in patients with a small thyroid cancer or a benign thyroid tumor. However, despite the many advantages of endoscopic surgery, it can result in unexpected complications. Recently, the authors experienced a case of follicular thyroid cancer recurrence that developed around the operative bed and along the port insertion site after endoscopic thyroidectomy for a large follicular neoplasm. BABA is comparable to COT in terms of complications and is safe and feasible when performed by experienced surgeons and for carefully selected patients who are concerned about neck scarring. However, the operative time and postoperative hospital stay are significantly longer, which may increase medical expenses.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of oral calcium plus vitamin D supplementation and to compare the effects of cholecalciferol versus calcitriol treatments on postoperative hypocalcemia. METHODS: After total thyroidectomy with central neck dissection, 306 patients were divided into 4 groups according to "routine use versus on-demand use" and "cholecalciferol versus calcitriol." RESULTS: Hypocalcemic symptoms developed in 101 patients (33.0%). Hypocalcemia d
