研究室紹介
Professor Juwon Lee's research lab specializes in the development of advanced two-dimensional materials and sustainable energy technologies. The lab focuses on the synthesis and application of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayers for next-generation optoelectronics, including high-performance photodetectors, optical memory devices, and lateral heterostructures with precise atomic-scale control. Additionally, the lab is actively engaged in advancing electrochemical processes for environmental remediation, such as wastewater treatment and sulfur recovery from industrial flue gases, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and process scalability. The integration of functional nanomaterials with self-healing and mechanical robustness is also a growing focus, particularly for self-powered wearable electronics.

15Abstract Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides are considered to be promising candidates for flexible and transparent optoelectronics applications due to their direct bandgap and strong light-matter interactions. Although several monolayer-based photodetectors have been demonstrated, single-layered optical memory devices suitable for high-quality image sensing have received little attention. Here we report a concept for monolayer MoS 2 optoelectronic memory devices using artificially-struct
Transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) monolayers are considered to be potential materials for atomically thin electronics due to their unique electronic and optical properties. However, large‐area and uniform growth of TMDC monolayers with large grain sizes is still a considerable challenge. This report presents a simple but effective approach for large‐scale and highly crystalline molybdenum disulfide monolayers using a solution‐processed precursor deposition. The low supersaturation level, tr
Two-dimensional (2D) heterostructured or alloyed monolayers composed of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) have recently emerged as promising materials with great potential for atomically thin electronic applications. However, fabrication of such artificial TMDC heterostructures with a sharp interface and a large crystal size still remains a challenge because of the difficulty in controlling various growth parameters simultaneously during the growth process. Here, a facile synthetic protoc
In response to the increasing global water demand and the pressing environmental challenges posed by climate change, the development of advanced wastewater treatment processes has become essential. This study introduces novel electrochemical technologies and examines the scalability of industrial-scale electrooxidation (EO) methods for wastewater treatment, focusing on simplifying processes and reducing operational costs. Focusing on the effective removal of key nutrients, specifically nitrogen
This study develops an elemental sulfur recovery (ESR) process from sulfur dioxide (SO2) as a hazardous material removed from flue gas emitted at thermal coal-fired power plants with a carbonate melt flue gas desulfurization (CMFGD) process. The carbonyl sulfide (COS) generated as a byproduct after removing SO2 from flue gas using carbonate melt in the CMFDG is utilized as a resource to produce elemental sulfur by applying the hydrolysis and Claus processes in the ESR process. In addition, to in
Despite the widespread interest in triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) for self-powered wearable electronics, the development of TENGs that effectively combine self-healing and robust mechanical properties remains challenging. Herein, we report an autonomous fully self-healing TENG (SH − TENG) with excellent mechanical properties for multifunctional self-powered applications. The SH − TENG is fabricated using a self-healing Ecoflex (SH − Ecoflex) synthesized through the polymerization of an Eco
This study applied a method for estimating chlorine decay constant (k) in urban water distribution systems using fluorescence excitation–emission matrix spectroscopy-parallel factor analysis (FEEM-PARAFAC), considering that it accounts for the influence of organic matter in the target area. The simultaneous impacts of seasonal variations on chlorine consumption and dissolved organic matter (DOM) composition were investigated for a year in three full-scale water distribution systems in I city (ar
UK Met Office Unified Model (UM) is a grid model applicable for both global and regional model configurations. The Met Office has developed a 4D-Var data assimilation system, which was implemented in the global forecast system on 5 October 2004. In an effort to improve its Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) system, Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) has adopted the UM system since 2008. The aim of this study is to provide the basic information on the effects of satellite data assimilation
The clathrate hydrates represent a distinctive, unusual, scientifically significant, and practically important class of solid state materials. Since their discovery in the early nineteenth century, their widespread distribution in oceans and permafrost regions and their ability to trap atoms and small molecules—particularly methane and other small hydrocarbons—has led to the realization that they are simultaneously a tremendous energy source and, in the face of global warming, a potential greenh
The consistent quality control of ultrapure water (UPW) in semiconductor manufacturing depends on removing trace organonitrogen compounds such as urea. Due to its high solubility, chemical stability, and neutral polarity, urea is inadequately removed by conventional processes. Even at low concentrations, it elevates total organic carbon (TOC) and reduces electrical resistivity. The use of reclaimed water as a sustainable feed stream amplifies this challenge because its nitrogen content is variab
A novel synthesis approach for high-quality, large-scale transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers is developed by SeungNam Cha, Jung Inn Sohn, and co-workers, as described in article number 1702206. The low supersaturation level, triggered by the evaporation of an extremely thin precursor layer, reduces the nucleation density dramatically under a thermodynamically stable environment, yielding uniform and clean large-area monolayer films. The vertically stacked heterostructured device shows a f
Water-quality incidents in the water supply can occur because of errors in pressurization plant operations, leaks, and pollutant infiltration. They lead to citizen complaints about water quality. Identifying high-risk areas and contributing factors for accidents helps to prevent incidents. Here, a predictive analysis technique based on a geographic information system and complaint data was developed using SaTScan, a space–time statistical analysis program. High-risk clusters were identified usin
