Professor Kim Youn-Jung's research lab focuses on the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Parkinson’s disease and vascular dementia, with an emphasis on oxidative stress, protein misfolding (e.g., α-synuclein), and neuroinflammation. The lab investigates neuroprotective agents, including vitamins (D and C), ginsenosides, and environmental interventions like environmental enrichment, to mitigate neuronal damage and cognitive decline. A key research direction involves developing novel therapeutic strategies, such as aptamer-based vitamin C complexes, to enhance antioxidant efficacy and protect the blood-brain barrier. The lab also explores the role of micronutrients and dietary factors in modulating chronic disease risk, including breast cancer and metabolic syndrome, through epidemiological and preclinical studies.
