研究室紹介
Professor Kyung Hee Park's research lab specializes in advanced materials and surface engineering, with a focus on enhancing machining processes through nanomodified lubricants and sustainable tribological solutions. The lab investigates the integration of 2D nanomaterials like exfoliated nanographene into minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) systems to improve thermal management in high-performance machining. Additionally, the lab explores the electronic and electronic structure properties of rare-earth compounds using advanced spectroscopic techniques, contributing to fundamental understanding in materials science. The research also extends into biomedical applications, including ophthalmic treatments and allergen sensitization in respiratory and dermatological diseases.

15Minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) has been used as an alternative solution for flood cooling as well as dry machining. However, the benefit of MQL is only realized in mild machining conditions as the heat generation during more aggressive machining conditions cannot be effectively eliminated by the small amount of oil mist being applied during MQL process. To extend the applicability of MQL to more aggressive machining conditions, we have developed a potential additive to MQL lubricant. After t
A comparative study was conducted to investigate the resulting tool wear and hole quality when drilling the stacks made of titanium (Ti) and carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) versus CFRP only plate using micrograin tungsten carbide (WC) twist drills. The experiments were designed to first drill CFRP alone to create 20 holes. Then, CFRP mechanically stacked with Ti was drilled for the next 20 holes with the same drill bit. This process was repeated until drill bit failure. The drilling exper
We have studied the electronic structures of rare-earth trihalides ${\mathrm{LaF}}_{3}$, ${\mathrm{LaCl}}_{3}$, ${\mathrm{CeF}}_{3}$, ${\mathrm{CeCl}}_{3}$, and ${\mathrm{GdF}}_{3}$ by x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), bremsstrahlung isochromat spectroscopy (BIS), and electron-energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS). The double peak structures of the rare-earth 3d core-level XPS can be understood within the Anderson impurity model as being due to the charge transfer from the ligand 2p level to the
The ImmunoCAP and Immulite systems showed similar performances. However, clinicians should consider fundamental methodological differences between the assays.
Patients with medically uncontrolled glaucoma secondary to intravitreal silicone oil injection can be treated with TSCPC in spite of the retained intravitreal silicone oil.
BACKGROUND: Various allergenic proteins are produced by house dust mites (HDM). However, the allergenicity and clinical implications of these allergens are unknown. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to identify allergens in Dermatophagoides farinae and elucidate the sensitization profiles to these in Korean patients suffering from respiratory (allergic rhinitis and/or asthma) and atopic dermatitis symptoms. METHODS: IgE reactivities in sera from 160 HDM allergy patients were analysed by o
The use of air purifiers with HEPA filters significantly reduced medication requirements for patients with HDM-induced AR and significantly lowered indoor PM2.5 concentrations, regardless of room placement. Active intervention to reduce household air pollutants may help improve allergic airway disease (clinicaltrials.gov NCT03313453).
For the cancer cells which have overcome the second mitotic clock (M2), activated telomerase is essential and used as another marker of immortality. Many trials had been initiated to target telomerase, which is known to be specific to tumors. To determine the best in vitro cell system for testing the efficacy of telomerase inhibitors, we evaluated the telomerase activity of various cancer cell lines and measured their telomere lengths. We also treated some cancer cell lines with adriamycin and m
The intracellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP) increase in response to cytotoxic concentrations of L-DOPA in PC12 cells, and forskolin that induces intracellular cAMP levels either protects PC12 cells from L-DOPA-induced cytotoxicity or enhances cytotoxicity in a concentration-dependent manner. This study investigated the effects of cAMP induced by forskolin on cell viability of PC12 cells, relevant to L-DOPA-induced cytotoxicity in Parkinson's disease therapy. The low levels of forskolin (0.01 a
