Professor Kyung Moon Kim's research lab specializes in cerebrovascular disease, with a focus on acute ischemic stroke mechanisms, collateral circulation, and neuroimaging biomarkers. The lab investigates the impact of baseline collateral flow on recanalization and hemorrhagic transformation after endovascular therapy, as well as the role of white matter integrity and leukoaraiosis in stroke recurrence. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The integrity of white matter tracts connecting different parts of the brain is important for rapid compensation for the lost function from ischemic stroke. Background and Purpose Collateral flow in acute ischemic stroke is known as a predictor of treatment outcome and long-term prognosis. However, factors determining the initial collateral flow remain unclear.
