研究室紹介

Professor Lee Donghyeon's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on molecular mechanisms underlying chronic diseases, particularly in oncology, viral hepatitis, and cardiovascular disorders. The lab investigates biomarkers such as telomerase activity and hs-CRP for disease prognosis and treatment response, while also exploring genetic polymorphisms and novel therapeutic agents like Ecklonia cava polyphenols for metabolic and liver diseases. Their work integrates clinical diagnostics with molecular assays, including PCR-based techniques and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, to improve risk stratification and patient outcomes.

Telomerase: a potential marker of bladder transitional cell carcinoma in bladder washes.
Dong Hyeon Lee, Seung Choul Yang, Sung Joon Hong, Byung Ha Chung, Isaac Yi Kim
PubMed

Telomerase is an enzyme that immortalizes cells by maintaining a constant telomere length. Here, telomerase activity in bladder washes was analyzed and compared with the final pathological diagnosis in 23 patients with bladder transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). Bladder washes and normal tissues were obtained from each patient prior to transurethral resection of bladder tumor. Telomerase activity was detected using telomeric repeat amplification protocol assay based on PCR. Cytological diagnosis

BACKGROUND: Polymorphisms near the IL28B gene have been proposed to be strongly associated with treatment response and the rate of spontaneous clearance of hepatitis C virus infection, and treatment response of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. In this study, we aimed to determine whether these polymorphisms could affect natural courses of HBV infection. METHODS: Genetic variations were identified through direct DNA sequencing using TaqMan assay in 1,439 patients with past or present HBV infect

BACKGROUND: The aim of the present study was to analyze the parameters related to baseline coronary flow velocity (CFV) and coronary flow reserve (CFR) using Doppler transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), and to assess their associations with components of the Framingham risk score (FRS), which estimates 10-year risk of coronary heart disease, in subjects with chest pain and a normal coronary angiogram. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 354 individuals (mean age: 55+/-11 years, M:F ratio =186:168)

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The early morning blood pressure surge (EMBPS) has been reported to be associated with cardiovascular events. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring (ABPM) parameters and conventional cardiovascular risk factors. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Patients (n=346) never-treated for essential hypertension with no other cardiovascular risk factors, such as diabetes, dyslipidemia, and nephropathy were enrolled. The EMBPS was

This study found that serum hs-CRP level is related to a lower response rate to antibiotics, a higher mortality rate in patients with SBP. The hs-CRP level was negatively correlated with the CP and Model for End-Stage Liver Disease scores, which suggests that the prognostic function of hs-CRP was not a surrogate for hepatic dysfunction.

SJR Q3Journal of Medicinal Food

We evaluated the efficacy and safety of Ecklonia cava polyphenol (Seapolynol™, a polyphenol antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent purified from E. cava) during a 12-week treatment period (400 mg orally once daily) in individuals with hypercholesterolemia and performed subgroup analysis for metabolic syndrome (MetS). As a noncomparative study, forty-six individuals (M:F=22:24, mean age=54±11 years) with fasting total cholesterol concentration >240 mg/dL or low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (L

We present a method to synthesize stable and uniform high-quality perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) by using excess halide to recover surface defects in CsPbBr 3 /ZnS core/shell nanocrystals. Use of N -bromosuccinimide as a halide donor recovered surface halide vacancies of bare CsPbBr 3 PNCs during the growth of the ZnS shell, as confirmed by DFT calculations. This approach achieves a high photoluminescence quantum yield of nearly 1, and significantly increases the stability of PNCs under adverse

BACKGROUND: It is challenging to diagnose asthma in preschool children. The asthma predictive index (API) has been used to predict asthma and decide whether to initiate treatment in preschool children. PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the association between questionnaire-based current asthma with API, pulmonary function, airway hyperreactivity (AHR), fractional expiratory nitric oxide (FeNO), and atopic sensitization in preschool children. METHODS: We performed a population-based cross-

Synergistic effect of cytokine-induced killer cell with valproate inhibits growth of hepatocellular carcinoma cell in a mouse model

OBJECTIVE: Long-term prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains poor owing to the lack of treatment options for advanced HCC. Cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells are ex vivo expanded T lymphocytes expressing both NK- and T-cell markers. CIK cell therapy alone is insufficient for treating advanced HCC. Thus, this study aimed to determine whether treatment with CIK cells combined with valproic acid (VPA) could provide a synergistic effect to inhibit tumor growth in a mouse model of HCC. M

SJR Q1Journal of Clinical Oncology

PURPOSE Epidemiologic studies suggest that chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a risk factor for various primary extrahepatic malignancies. Our aim was to evaluate the associations of CHB and nucleos(t)ide analog (NA) treatment with the risk of the development of extrahepatic malignancies. PATIENTS AND METHODS We conducted an 18-month landmark analysis using nationwide claims data from the National Health Insurance Service of South Korea. Patients newly diagnosed with CHB in 2012-2014 (n = 90,944) and

The IGF-CTP classification was slightly better than the original CTP classification for predicting survival of patients with HCC in a chronic hepatitis B endemic area. This is most likely due to the fact that serum IGF-1 levels reflect underlying HCC status.

SJR Q1Circulation JournalOA

BACKGROUND: There is little data about the additive effects of ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) on the exercise stress test (EST) used for the screening of ischemic heart disease. The relationship between myocardial ischemic burden and the change in IMA (DeltaIMA) during EST was investigated. METHODS AND RESULTS: EST was performed using the Bruce protocol to evaluate chest pain or exertional dyspnea in 155 patients (men 89, 53+/-13 years). Blood samples for IMA were obtained before and immediatel

Summary Background and Aims Vibration‐controlled transient elastography (VCTE) has shown good diagnostic performance in predicting fibrosis stages in patients with non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, an optimal diagnostic approach to detect advanced fibrosis in patients with NAFLD has not been established. Approach and Results We prospectively collected data from 539 subjects who underwent liver biopsy at a single centre between January 2014 and December 2019. Diagnostic performa
