研究室紹介

Professor Lee Hyeon-gyu's research lab specializes in theoretical and applied studies at the intersection of nuclear physics, quantum field theory, and biomedical engineering. The lab investigates topological structures in dense nuclear matter and their implications for neutron star physics, particularly focusing on symmetry energy, hadron properties, and compact star interiors using effective field theories. In parallel, the lab explores cognitive neuroscience through adaptive training programs and visual perception, while also advancing drug delivery technologies via innovative microneedle systems for transmucosal anesthesia. These diverse yet interconnected research directions reflect a strong emphasis on fundamental symmetries, emergent phenomena, and translational applications in health and astrophysics.

Half-Skyrmions, tensor forces, and symmetry energy in cold dense matter

SJR Q1Physical Review COA

In a previous article, the four-dimensional (4D) half-Skyrmion (or five-dimensional dyonic salt) structure of dense baryonic matter described in crystalline configuration in the large ${N}_{c}$ limit was shown to have nontrivial consequences on how antikaons behave in compressed nuclear matter with a possible implication for the ``ice-9'' phenomenon of deeply bound kaonic matter and condensed kaons in compact stars. We extend the analysis to make a further prediction on the scaling properties of

Issues Regarding the Blandford‐Znajek Process as a Gamma‐Ray Burst Inner Engine
Hyun Kyu Lee, G. E. Brown, R. A. M. J. Wijers
SJR Q1The Astrophysical JournalOA

Several issues regarding the Blandford-Znajek process are discussed to demonstrate that it can be an e ective mechanism for powering gamma-ray bursts. Using a simple circuit analysis, it is argued that the disk power increases the e ective power of the black hole accretion disk system, although a part of the disk power can be dissipated into black hole entropy. Within the framework of a force-free magnetosphere with a strong magnetic eld, a magnetically dominated MHD ow is found to support the B

OBJECTIVES: We examined whether a home-based, adaptive cognitive training (CT) program would lead to cognitive performance changes on a neuropsychological test battery in cognitively normal older adults. METHOD: Sixty-eight older adults (age = 70.0, SD = 3.74) were randomly assigned to either CT or an active control group (AC, casual computer games). Participants were instructed to train on their assigned programs for 42 min per day, 5 days per week, over 10 weeks (35 hr of total program usage).

Cusp in the symmetry energy, speed of sound in neutron stars and emergent pseudo-conformal symmetry
Hyun Kyu Lee, Yong-Liang Ma, Won-Gi Paeng, Mannque Rho
SJR Q2Modern Physics Letters AOA

In this paper, we review how the “cusp” predicted in the nuclear symmetry energy generated by a topology change at density [Formula: see text] can have a surprising consequence, so far unrecognized in nuclear physics and astrophysics communities, on the structure of dense compact-star matter. The topology change translated into nuclear EFT with “effective” QCD degrees of freedom encoded in hidden local and scale symmetries predicts an EoS that is soft below and stiff above [Formula: see text], a

Visual Cognition Influences Early Vision
Hyunkyu Lee, Shaun P. Vecera
SJR Q1Psychological Science

A partly occluded visual object is perceptually filled in behind the occluding surface, a process known as amodal completion or visual interpolation. Previous research focused on the image-based properties that lead to amodal completion. In the present experiments, we examined the role of a higher-level visual process-visual short-term memory (VSTM)-in amodal completion. We measured the degree of amodal completion by asking participants to perform an object-based attention task on occluded objec

Lidocaine-loaded dissolving microneedle for safe local anesthesia on oral mucosa for dental procedure

SJR Q1Expert Opinion on Drug DeliveryOA

BACKGROUND: Lidocaine has been widely used as a short-acting local anesthetic agent to reduce the pain caused by needle insertion. Dissolving microneedles (DMNs), which are minimally invasive, can effectively deliver drugs by overcoming the oral mucosal barrier and relieving patient discomfort. METHODS: Lidocaine solution prepared by mixing lidocaine-HCl and hyaluronic acid was used to fabricate oral lidocaine HCl-encapsulated DMNs (oral Li-DMNs) via centrifugal lithography. The dissolution, pen
