Professor Lee Maria's research lab specializes in translational oncology, focusing on molecular mechanisms underlying gynecological cancers, particularly ovarian and cervical cancer. The lab investigates non-coding RNAs, such as lncRNAs and miRNAs, in cancer progression and prognosis, and develops innovative diagnostic tools like electrically conductive microfluidic chips for circulating tumor cell (CTC) detection. Key research directions include identifying biomarkers for early detection, understanding the impact of germline BRCA mutations on ovarian cancer outcomes, and exploring the clinical implications of treatment-related side effects on sexual health and endometrial safety in breast cancer survivors.

Chemo-related menopause was significantly associated with both sexual inactivity and dysfunction after treatment. Thyroid dysfunction and depression were risk factors for sexual inactivity in younger breast cancer survivors.
In premenopausal BC patients treated with tamoxifen, abnormal uterine bleeding, increased endometrial thickness, and chemotherapy for BC were associated with the occurrence of endometrial cancer. These findings may provide useful information for gynecologic surveillance and counseling during tamoxifen treatment in premenopausal BC patients.
