Professor Mi-Sook Kwon's research lab specializes in clinical anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, with a strong focus on optimizing surgical outcomes in liver transplantation and living donor hepatectomy. The lab investigates anesthetic techniques—comparing volatile agents and total intravenous anesthesia—while evaluating their impact on postoperative organ function, particularly liver and renal recovery. Additional research directions include hemostatic safety in donors, such as the use of epidural catheters and coagulation profile monitoring, as well as the immunological and physiological responses to major surgery, including gender differences in white blood cell dynamics. The lab also explores innovative strategies to prevent tumor cell reinfusion during autotransfusion in liver surgery.
