Comparison of Gut Microbiota of 96 Healthy Dogs by Individual Traits: Breed, Age, and Body Condition Score
Inhwan You, Min Jung Kim
SJR Q1AnimalsOA

Since dogs are part of many peoples’ lives, research and industry related to their health and longevity are becoming a rising topic. Although gut microbiota (GM) is a key contributor to host health, limited information is available for canines. Therefore, this study characterized GM according to individual signatures (e.g., breed, age, and body condition score—BCS) of dogs living in the same environment. Fresh fecal samples from 96 healthy dogs were analyzed by sequencing the V3-V4 region of the

SJR Q1Organic Letters

A novel boron complex bearing a pyrene ligand (CPB) was synthesized and introduced as the first example of a binuclear boron complex in organic light-emitting diodes. In the solid state, CPB2 exhibited strong red emission. In the devices, red emission with Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.57, 0.42) was obtained by tuning the weight concentration of CPB2. CPB2 behaved as both an emitting and electron transporting material.

SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: Anastomotic complications after low anterior resection are associated with perianastomotic ischemia. Smoking is one of the main causes of microvascular disease that is correlated with tissue ischemia. The purpose of the present study was to assess the impact of smoking on anastomotic complications after low anterior resection in rectal cancer patients. METHODS: Between January 2005 and December 2008, 412 patients underwent low anterior resection for rectal cancers by a single surgeon

Widespread somatic L1 retrotransposition in normal colorectal epithelium
Chang Hyun Nam, Jeonghwan Youk, Jeong Yeon Kim, Joonoh Lim, Jung Woo Park, Soo A Oh, Hyun Jung Lee, Ji Won Park, Hyein Won, Yunah Lee, Seung‐Yong Jeong, Dong-Sung Lee
SJR Q1NatureOA

Abstract Throughout an individual’s lifetime, genomic alterations accumulate in somatic cells 1–11 . However, the mutational landscape induced by retrotransposition of long interspersed nuclear element-1 (L1), a widespread mobile element in the human genome 12–14 , is poorly understood in normal cells. Here we explored the whole-genome sequences of 899 single-cell clones established from three different cell types collected from 28 individuals. We identified 1,708 somatic L1 retrotransposition e

SJR Q1Lab on a Chip

Drug-induced cardiotoxicity or cytotoxicity followed by cell death in cardiac muscle is one of the major concerns in drug development. Herein, we report a high-content quantitative multicolor single cell imaging tool for automatic screening of drug-induced cardiotoxicity in an intact cell. A tunable multicolor imaging system coupled with a miniaturized sample platform was destined to elucidate drug-induced cardiotoxicity via simultaneous quantitative monitoring of intracellular sodium ion concen

To identify low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) patterns and their associations with risk factors and quality of life (QOL). This cross-sectional study analyzed patients who underwent restorative anterior resection for left-sided colorectal cancer at Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul, Republic of Korea. We administered LARS questionnaires to assess bowel dysfunction and quality of life between April 2017 and November 2019. LARS patterns were classified based on factor analyses. Variab

SJR Q1Frontiers in Veterinary ScienceOA

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) mediated intracellular communication plays an imperative role in the proper completion of different physiological events. Most of the bio-fluids are enriched with several subpopulations of EVs including exosomes and microvesicles (MVs), with the capacity of transferring different functional molecules (lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids) to target cells. Recipient cells upon receiving the signal molecules undergo different changes that positively affect the structura

Improved viability and fertility of frozen-thawed dog sperm using adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells
Ahmad Yar Qamar, Xun Fang, Min Jung Kim, Jongki Cho
SJR Q1Scientific ReportsOA

Abstract Cryopreservation procedures negatively affect the quality traits of sperm, causing certain changes at structural and molecular levels due to thermal, mechanical, osmotic, and oxidative damage. The objective of this study was to examine the potential of canine adipose - derived mesenchymal stem cells (Ad - MSCs) for providing protection to the dog sperm against cryo-damage. Canine Ad - MSCs were selected on the basis of the significantly higher gene expression for different proteins acti
