研究室紹介
Professor Mina Kim's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on infectious diseases, particularly fungal infections and antimicrobial resistance, as well as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) and cardiac arrhythmias. The lab integrates clinical microbiology, molecular diagnostics, and clinical outcomes research to address challenges in diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of rare and emerging pathogens, as well as solid organ malignancies and cardiovascular conditions. A key emphasis is placed on improving preoperative risk prediction and developing evidence-based clinical strategies to reduce overtreatment and enhance patient outcomes.

15Background. Candida haemulonii, a yeast species that often exhibits antifungal resistance, rarely causes human infection. During 2004-2006, unusual yeast isolates with phenotypic similarity to C. haemulonii were recovered from 23 patients (8 patients with fungemia and 15 patients with chronic otitis media) in 5 hospitals in Korea. Methods. Isolates were characterized using D1/D2 domain and ITS gene sequencing, and the susceptibility of the isolates to 6 antifungal agents was tested in vitro. Res
A highly efficient deep red/near-infrared emitting organic solid based on a β-dicyanostyrylbenzene derivative was reported.
Tumor size and EUS features cannot be used to preoperatively predict the risk of malignancy of medium-sized gastric GISTs. A preoperative diagnostic modality for predicting risk of malignancy is necessary to prevent the overtreatment of GISTs with a low risk of malignancy.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The incidence of early colorectal cancer (ECC) has been increasing. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcome and prognosis of ECC treated by endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). METHODS: A total of 129 ECC patients who were initially treated by EMR between April 2005 and August 2007 were enrolled. Clinicopathological characteristics and prognoses were evaluated retrospectively. RESULTS: En bloc resection was performed in 85% of ECC patients, and piecemeal re
The aim of this study was to assess the clinical and echocardiographic predictors for the recurrence of persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) after ablation during a long-term period.A total of 130 patients with persistent AF who had undergone radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) were enrolled. We analyzed the relation between clinical parameters, echocardiographic parameters, and AF recurrences at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after ablation.During the 2-year follow-up, AF recurred in 61 patie
AIM: It has been demonstrated that atrial fibrillation (AF) frequently recurred after cardioversion (CV) using direct current (DC) or radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) in patients with persistent (PeAF) or longstanding persistent AF (LPAF). We hypothesized that the atrial substrate impeding successful CV would also produce difficulty in catheter ablation, and therefore, the outcomes of RFCA for PeAF and LPAF could be predicted by the parameters determined at the time of DC CV. METHOD: From
The discriminative ability of the widely used CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scores for risk stratification of thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation (AF) is known as modest. Some echocardiographic parameters are known risk factors for thromboembolism. This study aimed to evaluate whether combining echocardiographic parameters with CHADS2 and CHA2DS2-VASc scores can improve the predictive power for embolic risk in AF.A total of 526 (F/M = 83/433, mean age = 57.6 ± 10.7 years) patients with non-valvular
A novel tissue engineering strategy using 3D bio-print technology has become a promising therapeutic method for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in an animal model. However, the application of 3D bio-printed tissue remains limited due to poor graft survival. Therefore, it is a scientific priority to enhance graft survival by precisely adjusting the 3D environment of encapsulated cells. In this study, novel transplantable 3D cardiac mesh (cMesh) tissue with a porous mesh structure was presented
BACKGROUND: Sex-related differences in the influence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) on various cardiovascular diseases have been suggested. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of sex on the association between MetS and left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction in patients with suspected coronary artery disease (CAD). METHODS: Two hundred ten patients (105 men and age-matched 105 women; mean age: 56.5 ± 10.9 years) undergoing elective coronary angiography for the evaluation of CAD
