研究室紹介

Professor Moon Ho Park's research lab specializes in clinical and translational neuroscience, with a focus on neurological disorders, cognitive aging, and pain management. Key research directions include the pathophysiology of stroke and movement disorders—particularly Parkinson’s disease and restless legs syndrome—using neuroimaging techniques like transcranial brain sonography. The lab also investigates perioperative pain control, especially the efficacy of peripheral nerve blocks in thoracic surgery, and explores cognitive dysfunction as a predictor of mortality in the elderly. These studies integrate clinical anesthesiology, neurology, and geriatric health outcomes.

Summary We evaluated the effect of pre‐operative serratus anterior plane block on postoperative pain and opioid consumption after thoracoscopic surgery. We randomly allocated 89 participants to block with 30 ml ropivacaine 0.375% (n = 44), or no block without placebo or sham procedure (n = 45). We analysed results from 42 participants in each group. Serratus anterior plane block reduced mean (SD) remifentanil dose during surgery, 0.12 (0.06) mg.h −1 vs. 0.16 (0.06) mg.h −1 , p = 0.016, and reduc

SJR Q1Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica

OBJECTIVE: Because the number of elderly is increasing worldwide, cognitive dysfunction becomes important health care issue. This study investigated the association between cognitive dysfunction and mortality in the elderly. METHOD: Data were analyzed from a longitudinal mortality follow-up study of 2712 Korean elderly aged 60 and over, examined in 2002 with complete data followed an average 6.03 years. Measurements included socio-demographic and clinical factors and Mini-Mental State Examinatio

Cell-free synthesis of deoxyhypusine. Separation of protein substrate and enzyme and identification of 1,3-diaminopropane as a product of spermidine cleavage.

SJR Q1Journal of Biological ChemistryOA

The post-translational formation of hypusine (N epsilon-(4-amino-2-hydroxybutyl)lysine) occurs in a precursor of eukaryotic initiation factor 4D by way of two major steps: 1) transfer of the 4-aminobutyl moiety from spermidine to the epsilon-amino group of a specific lysine residue to form an intermediate, deoxyhypusine; 2) hydroxylation of the deoxyhypusine residue to form hypusine. The initial step of this modification, deoxyhypusine synthesis, was studied in fractionated lysates of Chinese ha

No difference in stroke knowledge between Korean adherents to traditional and western medicine – the AGE study: an epidemiological study

SJR Q1BMC Public HealthOA

BACKGROUND: Effective stroke intervention and risk reduction depend on the general public's awareness and knowledge of stroke. In Korea, where both traditional Oriental medicine and Western medicine are practiced, estimates of the general public's awareness and knowledge of stroke are poor. The present study sought to describe the inception cohort of the Ansan Geriatric Study (AGE study) and to determine baseline stroke awareness and preferred medical treatment for stroke in this Korean sample.

SJR Q1Movement Disorders

Substantia nigra (SN) hyperechogenicity assessed by transcranial brain sonography (TCS) is a characteristic finding in idiopathic Parkinson's disease (PD). In contrast, SN hypoechogenicity on TCS has been recently demonstrated in restless legs syndrome (RLS). RLS is one of the most common sleep problems in PD, but the pathophysiologic relationship between these two disorders has not been thoroughly elucidated. We compared the SN echogenicities of PD patients with and without RLS to investigate w

BACKGROUND: The overall objective of the Ansan Geriatric Study (AGE study) was to describe the prevalence, incidence, and related risk factors for geriatric diseases in elderly Koreans. METHODS/DESIGN: The AGE study was designed as a population-based prospective cohort study on health, aging, and common geriatric diseases of elderly Koreans aged 60 to 84 years. The inception cohort was recruited in May 2002. The first-wave and second-wave studies were performed using uniform and structured proce

OBJECTIVE: To develop a machine learning algorithm to identify cognitive dysfunction based on neuropsychological screening test results. METHODS: This retrospective study included 955 participants: 341 participants with dementia (dementia), 333 participants with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and 341 participants who were cognitively healthy. All participants underwent evaluations including the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Each participant's caregiver or

Serum Anti-Amyloid-β Antibodies and Alzheimer's Disease in Elderly Korean Patients
MS Song, Inhee Mook‐Jung, HJ Lee, J.-Y. Min, Moon Ho Park
SJR Q3Journal of International Medical Research

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the deposition of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. The presence of the amyloid-beta (Abeta) peptide in senile plaques seems to play a central role in the neuropathology of AD. Diagnosis of AD involves neuropsychological examinations or magnetic resonance imaging and, to date, a specific diagnostic marker indicating AD has not been found. This study analysed anti-Abeta antibodies from the serum of 153 patients with AD using an e
