Professor Ock Chae Kwon's research lab specializes in fundamental combustion science, with a focus on laminar premixed flame dynamics, flame stability, and the effects of stretch on flame propagation. The lab conducts detailed experimental investigations on unstretched laminar burning velocities and flame response to stretch (Markstein numbers) in various hydrocarbon-air mixtures under controlled conditions. Their work contributes significantly to the understanding of flame behavior in internal combustion engines and industrial burners, particularly under variable pressure, equivalence ratio, and oxygen concentration. The research also explores the flammability limits and combustion characteristics of alternative fuels such as alcohols and hydrocarbons.

15Unstretched laminar burning velocities and e ame response to stretch (Markstein numbers ) were measured for outwardly propagating spherical laminar premixed e ames involving mixtures of hydrocarbon vapors, oxygen, and nitrogen.
