SJR Q1ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces

Precise control over the size and shape of ice crystals is a key factor to consider in designing antifreezing and cryoprotecting molecules for cryopreservation of cells. Here, we report that a poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(l-alanine) (PEG-PA) block copolymer exhibits excellent cryoprotecting properties for stem cells and antifreezing properties for water. As the molecular weight of PA increased from 500, 760, and 1750 Da (P1, P2, and P3) at the same PEG molecular weight of 5000 Da, the β-sheet cont

Diagnostic Test Accuracy of the Beck Depression Inventory for Detecting Major Depression in Adolescents: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Anna Lee, Jin Kyung Park
SJR Q2Clinical Nursing Research

Major depressive disorder in adolescents is closely linked to poor social, cognitive, and academic outcomes, including suicidality. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), a screening tool, is one of the most widely used instruments for detecting depression; however, its diagnostic test accuracy has not yet been thoroughly examined. This study, therefore, aimed to systematically review and perform a meta-analysis to evaluate the accuracy of the BDI for detecting depression in adolescents. In August

SJR Q1Tropical Medicine & International HealthOA

Phase-III vaccine efficacy trials typically employ individually randomized designs intended to ensure that measurements of vaccine protective efficacy reflect only direct vaccine effects. As a result, decisions about introducing newly licensed vaccines into public health programmes often fail to consider the substantially greater protection that may occur when a vaccine is deployed in public health programmes, due to the combination of direct plus indirect vaccine protective effects. Bodies for Empire: Biopolitics, Reproduction, and Sexual Knowledge in Late Colonial Korea
Jin Kyung Park
SJR Q4Korean Journal of Medical HistoryOA

This paper explores the history of the biomedical construction of women's bodies as social bodies in the formation of colonial modernity in Korea. To do so, I engage with Michel Foucault's concepts of governmentality and biopolitics and the postcolonial history of medicine that has critically revisited these Foucauldian notions. These offer critical insights into the modern calculation of population and the biomedical gaze on female bodies on the Korean Peninsula under Japan's colonial rule (191
