Professor Sang-Hoon Kim's research lab focuses on molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying critical biological processes, including cell cycle regulation, sensory transduction, and intercellular communication via extracellular vesicles. The lab investigates key regulatory proteins such as Mad2 and TRPA1 in cellular checkpoints and sensory signaling, while also exploring the functional roles of milk-derived exosomes in cellular physiology. Additionally, the lab engages in applied research in plant pathology, particularly in identifying and characterizing disease resistance mechanisms in pepper crops. These diverse research directions reflect a strong emphasis on molecular mechanisms with translational implications in human health and agricultural biotechnology.

15Mad2 is a component of the spindle checkpoint, which delays the onset of anaphase until all chromosomes are attached to the spindle. Mad2 formed a complex with Slp1, a WD (tryptophan-aspartic acid)-repeat protein essential for the onset of anaphase. When the physical interaction between the two proteins was disrupted, the spindle checkpoint was no longer functional. A chemosensor (1) bearing a 1,2,3-triazole ring spacer was synthesized for the selective detection of Al(3+) with respect to dual optical and electrochemical changing events. The addition of Al(3+) ions to 1 induced a significant change in fluorescence intensity, attributable to ICT and CHEF effects from the 1,2,3-triazole ring. The electrochemical behavior of 1 in the presence of the Al(3+) ion was significantly altered compared with those of the other metal cations tested.

The rates of mild or greater hearing loss in the underweight, normal, overweight, obese, and severely obese groups were 24.9%, 20.4%, 21.8%, 21.2%, and 24.1%, respectively.
