Professor Sang-Joon Kim's research lab specializes in the design and application of advanced nanomaterials for next-generation sensing and energy technologies. The lab focuses on developing bioinspired, nanostructured semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) and bimetallic catalysts—particularly Pt-based systems—functionalized via protein templates for highly sensitive and selective chemical sensing. A key research direction involves applying these materials to real-world challenges such as disease diagnosis through exhaled breath analysis and environmental monitoring. The lab also explores the integration of these nanomaterials into smart sensor arrays and investigates their performance under complex, real-life conditions like high humidity.

Nanofibrous semiconductor metal oxides (SMOs) functionalized by Pt-based bimetallic catalysts are synthesized by bioinspired protein templates by Il-Doo Kim and co-workers in article number 1700737. Abstract Globalisation has produced changes in economic and social characteristics with no area more affected than job competitiveness and security. A common response has been increased investment in education. Korea has experienced this job insecurity and the associated heightened emphasis on education but the “localisation of globalisation” in Korea has had distinctive impacts.
