Professor Sang-Kyu Yeo's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying chronic inflammatory diseases and cancer, with a central emphasis on the role of the IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway in disease pathogenesis. The lab investigates how STAT3 activation contributes to tumorigenesis, microglia-mediated neurodegeneration in diabetes, and the tumor microenvironment in liver and glioblastoma cancers. A key research direction involves developing targeted therapies, such as small molecule STAT3 inhibitors (e.g., ODZ10117), to disrupt oncogenic signaling and overcome drug resistance. The lab also explores the protective effects of natural compounds like PGG against UVB-induced skin damage and examines the impact of physical forces—such as simulated microgravity—on cancer cell behavior.
