研究室紹介

Professor Sanghyun Shin's research lab specializes in pancreatic cancer biology and minimally invasive surgical oncology, with a focus on improving diagnostic accuracy, treatment strategies, and patient outcomes. The lab investigates the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, particularly the role of genes like DPC4 in recurrence and treatment response. It also explores preoperative prediction models for pancreatic neoplasms such as IPMNs and evaluates the efficacy of laparoscopic surgery in pancreatic and biliary tract diseases. The integration of surgical innovation with molecular oncology defines the lab’s translational research approach.

SJR Q1World Journal of Surgery

BACKGROUND: The objective of the present study was to identify reliable preoperative factors predicting malignancy or invasiveness of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm (IPMN) of the pancreas and the effectiveness of a diagnostic scoring system based on these factors. METHODS: Between August 1994 and December 2007, 204 patients underwent pancreatic resection for IPMN at a single institute. Medical records were reviewed retrospectively, and a new diagnostic scoring system for predicting mali

The DPC4/SMAD4 genetic status determines recurrence patterns and treatment outcomes in resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: A prospective cohort study

SJR Q2OncotargetOA

Genetic status of DPC4 contributes to the recurrence patterns following pancreatectomy, and patients with an initially expressed DPC4 gene receive a greater benefit from intensive local control for locoregional recurrence. The DPC4 gene, therefore, may aid the establishment of treatment strategies for initial adjuvant treatment or for recurrent PDAC.

SJR Q1CancersOA

The survival of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is closely related to recurrence. It is necessary to classify the risk factors for early recurrence and to develop a tool for predicting the initial outcome after surgery. Among patients with resected resectable PDAC at Samsung Medical Center (Seoul, Korea) between January 2007 and December 2016, 631 patients were classified as the training set. Analyses identifying preoperative factors affecting early recurrence after surgery

An Acidic PATHOGENESIS-RELATED1 Gene of Oryza grandiglumis is Involved in Disease Resistance Response Against Bacterial Infection
Sang Hyun Shin, Jung-Hun Pak, Mi Jin Kim, Hye Jeong Kim, Ju Sung Oh, Hong Kyu Choi, Ho Won Jung, Young Soo Chung
SJR Q1The Plant Pathology JournalOA

Wild rice, Oryza grandiglumis shows hyper-resistance response to pathogen infection. In order to identify genes necessary for defense response in plants, we have carried out a subtractive hybridization coupled with a cDNA macroarray. An acidic PATHOGENESIS-RELATED1 (PR1) gene of the wild rice is highly identical to the acidic PR1 genes of different plant species. The OgPR1a cDNA has an apparent single open reading frame with a predicted molecular mass 40,621 Da and an isoelectic point of 5.14. B

SJR Q1Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Sciences

BACKGROUND: The present study aimed to determine the optimal timing of pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) following preoperative biliary drainage (PBD) with consideration of postoperative morbidity and survival. METHODS: Between January 2007 and December 2015, consecutive 1,568 patients underwent PD at a single institution. Their data were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS: Of all, 831 patients underwent PBD. The mean duration between drainage and surgery was 16.9 days. Regarding postoperative outcome

Background: The clinical course of complete pathologic response (cPR) in pancreatic cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy is not well known. The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical course of patients according to pathological response, including cPR, who received only FOLIFIRNOX in advanced pancreatic cancer. Methods: Patients who underwent pancreatectomy after FOLFIRINOX for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) from 2017 to 2019 were retrospectively reviewed. cPR was defined as

SJR Q1CancersOA

Given the rare incidence of pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC), its post-resection clinical outcomes remain unclear. Treatment strategies for PACC have relied on those of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The present study retrospectively investigated clinicopathologic characteristics of resected PACC registered in the Korea Tumor Registry System Biliary Pancreas database. Among 59 patients with a mean age of 59.2 years and a male predominance (83.1%), 43, 5, 7, and 4 had pure PACC,
