Professor Se Ik Kim's research lab focuses on translational oncology with a strong emphasis on ovarian cancer, particularly high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). The lab investigates genetic, metabolic, and systemic factors influencing prognosis and treatment outcomes, including germline BRCA mutations, sarcopenia, body composition, and underweight status. Utilizing multi-omics approaches such as metagenomic analysis of serum extracellular vesicles and clinical biomarkers, the lab develops diagnostic and prognostic models to improve patient stratification and personalized care. The research also explores psychosocial outcomes, such as sexuality and quality of life, in ovarian cancer survivors.

This study aimed to investigate the impact of sarcopenia and body composition on survival outcomes in Korean patients with advanced-stage high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSOC). This study aimed to investigate the impact of underweight status on the prognosis of advanced-stage ovarian cancer. We successfully developed nomograms predicting treatment response and prognosis of patients with EOC. These nomograms are expected to be useful in clinical practice and designing clinical trials.
