Professor Seung Mi Lee's research lab focuses on maternal-fetal medicine and perinatal infectious diseases, with a strong emphasis on the diagnosis and clinical implications of preterm birth, intra-amniotic infection, and maternal-fetal transmission of pathogens. The lab investigates biomarkers such as Amnisure and fetal fibronectin to assess preterm labor and rupture of membranes, while also exploring the role of periodontopathogens and HPV in pregnancy outcomes. A key research direction involves understanding the timing, routes, and risks of vertical transmission of infections like HPV and genital mycoplasmas during pregnancy.

The presence of Grade 2-3 steatosis on ultrasound in early pregnancy was associated with the increased risk of delivering an LGA infant, even after adjustment for multiple confounding factors including GDM. Adiponectin may be the linking biomarker between NAFLD and LGA.
