Professor Seungbok Lee's research lab focuses on cytoskeletal dynamics and extracellular matrix regulation in development and disease. The lab investigates how cytoskeletal proteins like Short Stop (Shot), a plakin family member, coordinate actin and microtubule networks to regulate axon guidance, cell polarity, and lumen formation in tubular systems such as the Drosophila trachea. Additionally, the lab explores the role of bone morphogenetic protein-1 (BMP-1) in extracellular matrix remodeling, particularly in response to TGF-β1 signaling, with implications for fibrosis and tissue homeostasis. The research integrates cell biology, developmental genetics, and extracellular matrix biology to understand fundamental mechanisms of tissue morphogenesis and disease.
