Professor Sokchan Lee's research lab focuses on plant virology and the molecular mechanisms underlying viral infections in plants, particularly geminiviruses and begomoviruses that affect major crops such as tomato and Arabidopsis. The lab investigates host-virus interactions, viral replication, gene expression, and movement within host plants, as well as the role of host factors like transporters in determining susceptibility. Additionally, the lab explores the anti-cancer effects of high-dose ascorbic acid, particularly its mechanism involving ROS generation and SVCT-2 transporter expression, linking plant virology with biomedical research on vitamin C. The lab also contributes to the molecular characterization of emerging plant viruses, such as ToLCNDV-ES, and their spread across regions.
