Professor Soo-hwan Lee's research lab focuses on clinical and translational studies in pulmonary and critical care medicine, with a strong emphasis on respiratory infections, lung disease, and their systemic implications. The lab investigates the impact of environmental and lifestyle factors—such as smoking—on the gut microbiome and respiratory health, as well as the pathogenesis and management of complex pulmonary conditions like nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease and pneumocystis pneumonia in immunocompromised populations. Additionally, the lab explores neuromonitoring techniques in neurosurgical interventions, particularly auditory brainstem response monitoring during microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm. The research integrates population-based epidemiology with clinical outcomes to improve patient care in critical and pulmonary care settings.

The number of nursing staff and the presence of an intensivist in ICU were associated with the ICU mortality rate. Also, increasing the number of nursing staff and the presence of intensivist might reduce the mortality rate among ICU patients.
