Medial Meniscal Posterior Horn Tears Are Associated With Increased Posterior Tibial Slope: A Case-Control Study
Hyun‐Soo Moon, Chong‐Hyuk Choi, Min Jung, Dae-Young Lee, Kwang-Sik Eum, Sung‐Hwan Kim
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: While the medial meniscal posterior horn (MMPH) is reported to bear a considerable portion of overall load on the knee joint, including compressive and shear forces, no study has yet investigated the relationship between the MMPH and posterior tibial slope (PTS), which is a geometric factor associated with the shear force component in the presence of a compressive load in the knee joint. HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: The purpose was to investigate the relationship between the PTS and MMPH tear

SJR Q2BMC Musculoskeletal DisordersOA

Abstract Background Although the measurement of coronal alignment of the lower limb on conventional full-length weight-bearing anteroposterior (FLWAP) radiographs was reported to be influenced by the knee joint rotation, no comparative analysis was performed considering the effects of knee joint rotation on the sagittal and axial planes simultaneously using the three-dimensional images while taking into account the actual weight-bearing conditions. The aim of this study was to investigate the ef

Traumatic and degenerative lesions of articular cartilage usually progress to osteoarthritis (OA), a leading cause of disability in humans. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) can regulate the differentiation of human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) and play important roles in the expression of genes related to OA. However, their functional roles in OA remain poorly understood. Here, we have examined miR-449a, which targets sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and lymphoid enhancer-binding factor-1 (LEF-1), and

Mild to Moderate Varus Alignment in Relation to Surgical Repair of a Medial Meniscus Root Tear: A Matched-Cohort Controlled Study With 2 Years of Follow-up
Hyun‐Soo Moon, Chong‐Hyuk Choi, Je‐Hyun Yoo, Min Jung, Tae‐Ho Lee, Byeong-Hun Jeon, Sung‐Hwan Kim
SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: Increased varus alignment of the lower extremity is known to be a poor prognostic factor for the surgical repair for a medial meniscus root tear (MMRT). However, given the concept of constitutional varus, which is present in a substantial portion of the normal population, the generally accepted surgical indication for MMRT concerning a varus alignment of 5° may be unnecessarily narrow. PURPOSE: To compare the surgical outcomes of arthroscopic transtibial pullout repair of MMRT accord

SJR Q1The American Journal of Sports Medicine

BACKGROUND: Despite persistent continuity of the attenuated posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in most PCL insufficient knees, few reconstruction techniques that preserve the PCL remnant have been presented. Furthermore, data regarding the clinical outcomes of these approaches are even more limited, and the clinical validity of remnant preservation has not yet been established. PURPOSE: To compare the clinical outcomes of transtibial PCL reconstructions that incorporate remnant preservation with

SJR Q2MedicinaOA

Medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMRTs), defined as tears or avulsions that occur within 1 cm of the tibial attachment of the medial meniscus posterior root, lead to biomechanically detrimental knee conditions by creating a functionally meniscal-deficient status. Given their biomechanical significance, MMRTs have recently been gaining increasing interest. Accordingly, numerous studies have been conducted on the anatomy, biomechanics, clinical features, diagnosis, and treatment of MMRTs, and

Do Rotation and Measurement Methods Affect Reliability of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Tunnel Position on 3D Reconstructed Computed Tomography?
Hyun‐Soo Moon, Chong‐Hyuk Choi, Min Jung, Dae‐Young Lee, Hsien-Hao Chang, Sung‐Hwan Kim
SJR Q1Orthopaedic Journal of Sports MedicineOA

BACKGROUND: The literature has seldom investigated the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tunnel position while considering the effect of rotation of 3-dimensional computed tomography (3D-CT) images during measurements. HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that (1) measurement of the ACL tunnel position in the femur and tibia through use of 3D-CT is considerably influenced by rotation of the 3D model and (2) there exists a reliable measurement method for ACL tunnel position least affected by rotation.
