Professor Sung Tae Kim's research lab specializes in nanomaterials and their biomedical applications, with a strong focus on surface engineering of nanoparticles to optimize their interactions with biological systems. The lab investigates the role of surface properties—such as charge, hydrophobicity, and molecular interactions—in determining the behavior of nanomaterials in vitro, in vivo, and in environmental settings. Key research directions include the development of functional nanocarriers for therapeutic delivery (e.g., siRNA using dendronized gold nanoparticles) and the study of nanomaterial impacts on physiological systems, including cardiovascular and reproductive health. The lab also explores advanced soft materials, such as cholesteric liquid single-crystal elastomers, for potential applications in responsive and adaptive technologies.

15Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the tracheobronchial tree, usually located in a segmental bronchus, appears at CT as a smoothly oval or lobulated airway mass. It adapts to the branching features of the airways.
OBJECTIVE: Thoracic actinomycosis is a chronic suppurative pulmonary or endobronchial infection caused by Actinomyces israelii, a gram-positive anaerobic organism. We present the CT features of thoracic actinomycosis with histopathologic correlation. CONCLUSION: The typical CT feature of parenchymal actinomycosis is a chronic segmental air-space consolidation containing necrotic low-attenuation areas with frequent cavity formation. BALT lymphomas usually appear as airspace consolidation or nodules with air bronchogram or adjacent ground-glass attenuation at CT. These findings are similar to previous descriptions of pseudolymphomas. Multiple bilateral lesions are common in BALT lymphoma. Bubble-like radiolucencies have not been described previously and can be an additional finding of BALT lymphoma.
The objective of this study was to assess the CT features of pulmonary inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors with pathologic correlation. The authors retrospectively reviewed CT and pathologic findings of 10 patients with surgically resected inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the lung. Among the various subtypes of pleomorphic carcinoma, the large cell and giant cell subtype showed constant CT features including subpleural location, peritumoral areas of ground-glass attenuation, and extensive central low-attenuation areas.

OBJECTIVE: Our objective was to assess the CT findings for endobronchial actinomycosis associated with broncholithiasis. CONCLUSION: Endobronchial actinomycosis associated with broncholithiasis manifests as a proximal obstructive calcified endobronchial nodule associated with distal post-obstructive pneumonia of the involved lobe or segment on CT. The possibility of endobronchial actinomycosis should be entertained when broncholithiasis is seen on CT in tuberculosis-endemic areas.
Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation is feasible and can be a promising method for the local control of metastatic pulmonary nodules caused by hepatocellular carcinoma, especially when they are limited in number.
