研究室紹介

Professor Sunju Park's research lab specializes in translational biomedical research with a focus on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and mild cognitive impairment, using eye movement biomarkers for early detection. The lab also investigates metabolic and muscular disorders, including obesity and Duchenne muscular dystrophy, through clinical trials and novel diagnostic assays. Additionally, the lab engages in preclinical oncology research, developing animal models and therapeutic strategies for metastatic breast cancer using targeted alpha-particle therapy. The integration of clinical, biochemical, and systems-level approaches defines the lab’s interdisciplinary research direction.

Saccadic Eye Movement in Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer’s Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

SJR Q1Neuropsychology ReviewOA

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is considered the transitional state to AD dementia (ADD) and other types of dementia, whose symptoms are accompanied by altered eye movement. In this work, we reviewed the existing literature and conducted a meta-analysis to extract relevant eye movement parameters that are significantly altered owing to ADD and MCI. We conducted a systematic review of 35 eligible original publications in saccade para

An adaptive agent bidding strategy based on stochastic modeling
Sunju Park, Edmund H. Durfee, William P. Birmingham
OA

For a dynamic, evolving multiagent auction, we have developed an adaptive agent bidding strategy (called the p-strategy) based on stochastic modeling. The p-strategy takes into account the dynamics and resulting uncertainties of the auction process using stochastic modeling, and avoids the shortcomings of stochastic modeling by adaptively deciding when to use the model and when not to. Our experiments show that the p-strategy outperforms other candidate bidding strategies in a continuous double

SJR Q1PLoS ONEOA

BACKGROUND: Peer review is widely used in academic fields to assess a manuscript's significance and to improve its quality for publication. This scoping review will assess existing peer review guidelines and/or checklists intended for reviewers of biomedical journals and provide an overview on the review guidelines. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Allied and Complementary Medicine (AMED) databases were searched for review guidelines from the date of inception until February 19, 2021. There was no d

Objective. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of Taeeumjowi-tang (TJ001) as well as to estimate obesity-related factors. Methods. This was a 12-week trial with 5 visits. A total of 102 participants of both genders were randomized to either TJ001 (n = 57) group or the placebo group (n = 55). Subjects were administered 7 g of either TJ001 or placebo 3 times a day. The primary outcome was a rate of subjects who lost 5% or more of initial weight. Secondary outcomes inclu

Creatine kinase‐MM concentration in dried blood spots from newborns and implications for newborn screening for Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Sunju Park, Breanne Maloney, Michele Caggana, Norma P. Tavakoli
SJR Q1Muscle & NerveOA

INTRODUCTION/AIMS: Creatine kinase-MM (CK-MM) is a marker of skeletal muscle damage. Detection of elevated levels of CK-MM in newborns can enable an early suspicion of the diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) before symptom onset. Our aim was to investigate CK-MM levels in DMD-affected and unaffected newborns using an immunoassay that measures CK-MM concentration in dried blood spots collected for routine newborn screening. METHODS: To validate the assay in our laboratory, CK-MM measur

Human HER2 overexpressing mouse breast cancer cell lines derived from MMTV.f.HuHER2 mice: characterization and use in a model of metastatic breast cancer
Sunju Park, Jessie R. Nedrow, Anders Josefsson, George Sgouros
SJR Q2OncotargetOA

Preclinical evaluation of therapeutic agents against metastatic breast cancer require cell lines and animal models that recapitulate clinical metastatic breast cancer as much as possible. We have previously used cell lines derived from the neu-N transgenic model to investigate anti-neu targeting of metastatic breast cancer using an alpha-emitter labeled antibody reactive with the rat variant of HER2/neu expressed by the neu-N model. To investigate alpha-particle emitter targeting of metastatic b

Clinical Effectiveness of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Interventions in Combination with Nicotine Replacement Therapy on Smoking Cessation: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Trial
Soobin Jang, Ju Ah Lee, Bo-Hyoung Jang, Yong Cheol Shin, Seong‐Gyu Ko, Sunju Park
The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine

Background: Smoking is associated with many preventable diseases and deaths. Globally, more than 6 million deaths per year are related to smoking. This study aimed to evaluate the pragmatic effectiveness of traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) interventions for the smoking cessation treatment and to calculate the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of these interventions. Methods: The study design was a pragmatic, open-label randomized trial. The hypo

BACKGROUND: Obesity, which is described as excessive or abnormal body fat, increases the risk of diet-related diseases. In Korea and around the world, the prevalence of obesity has grown annually from 1998 to 2008. This growth has continued despite various therapeutic efforts. The discovery of new and alternative treatments for obesity should be considered an important priority. Taeumjowi-tang (TJ001), a traditional Korean medicinal extract consisting of eight herbs, is a widely used herbal reme

Advantages of Strategic Thinking in Multiagent Contracts (A Mechanism and Analysis)
Sunju Park, Edmund H. Durfee, William P. Birmingham

Forming a contract among self-interested agents often requires complex, strategic thinking. For instance, a self-interested agent (contractee) will perform a task of another agent (contractor) only when doing it is its own interest, and therefore to form a successful contract, the contractor needs to provide incentives to the contractee, such as proposing a payment higher than the contractee's cost of doing the task. In this paper, we focus on the contractor's strategic decisio
