Professor Sunny Joo's research lab focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, with a strong emphasis on genetic risk factors such as the APOE epsilon 4 allele and their interactions with amyloid-beta pathology. The lab investigates the role of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in disease progression, exploring therapeutic strategies involving antioxidants like edaravone and dietary polyphenols. Additionally, the lab contributes to the understanding of rare clinical conditions, such as adrenal pseudocysts and biliary neoplasms, through detailed case analyses and diagnostic insights. Adrenal pseudocysts are rare cystic masses that arise within the adrenal gland and are usually non-functional and asymptomatic. Adrenal pseudocysts consist of a fibrous wall without a cellular lining. We report a patient with a 9 cm, left-sided suprarenal cystic mass who presented with abdominal discomfort of 2 years' duration.
