Professor Tae-Hun Kim's research lab focuses on the development and clinical evaluation of alternative and complementary therapies, particularly in the fields of integrative medicine and regenerative health. The lab investigates the safety and efficacy of treatments such as bee venom therapy, cupping therapy, and herbal medicine, with a strong emphasis on rigorous clinical trials for conditions like chronic neck pain and Parkinson’s disease. Additionally, the lab explores advanced nanomaterials, including surfactant-stabilized single-walled carbon nanotubes, for enhanced dispersion and practical applications in biomedicine and materials science.

15Adverse events related to bee venom therapy are frequent; therefore, practitioners of bee venom therapy should be cautious when applying it in daily clinical practice, and the practitioner's education and qualifications regarding the use of bee venom therapy should be ensured.

Individually isolated single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are coated with a monolayer of cationic surfactant to improve the stability of their dispersions in water. After polymerizing the counterions of the surfactant, the monolayer coating is “locked in” (see figure), and the SWNTs are redispersible even after harsh processing such as freeze-drying, offering improved potential for practical applications.

OBJECTIVES: This was a randomized controlled pilot trial to evaluate the effectiveness of cupping therapy for neck pain in video display terminal (VDT) workers.
