研究室紹介
Professor Woo Kyu Jeon's research lab focuses on hepatology and gastrointestinal diseases, with a strong emphasis on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), metabolic syndrome, and their systemic implications. The lab investigates the interplay between insulin resistance, systemic inflammation, and liver fat accumulation, particularly in non-obese populations, while also exploring the links between NAFLD and colorectal neoplasia. Additionally, the lab contributes to clinical endoscopy, evaluating interventional techniques such as EBC and BRTO for gastric variceal hemorrhage. The research integrates clinical epidemiology, metabolic profiling, and advanced imaging to identify risk factors and improve patient outcomes.

Thus, the aim of the present study was to accurately determine the actual prevalence of NAFLD by sonography and to characterize the risk factors for NAFLD. METHODS: The present cross-sectional study was performed with data obtained from 6,648 subjects, all of whom were older
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Although insulin resistance is often considered the link between obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the role of insulin resistance, independent of obesity, as a NAFLD risk factor in non-obese men has been less well established. Systemic inflammation may be accompanied by insulin resistance in healthy subjects. The goal of the present study was to examine if insulin resistance and systemic inflammatory markers are independent predictors of NAFLD in non-obes
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance are associated with a higher risk of colon cancer. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is regarded as a manifestation of metabolic syndrome in the liver. This investigation was initiated to determine whether NAFLD has a relationship to colorectal adenomatous polyps. METHODS: We examined the 2917 participants who underwent a routine colonoscopy at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in 2007. We divided the 2917 subjects into the adenomatou
BACKGROUND AND AIM: Our study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic results of endoscopic N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate injection (EBC) and balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (BRTO) in patients with gastric variceal hemorrhage (GVH) and/or high-risk gastric varices (GV). METHODS: Twenty-seven patients with GVH and/or high-risk GV (>or= 5 mm in diameter, those with red spots, and a Child-Pugh grading of B or C liver cirrhosis) who were treated with either EBC or BRTO from April 2005 to De
This study demonstrated a positive correlation between the number of mucosal mast cells and intestinal permeability, suggesting that mucosal mast cells play an important role for increased intestinal permeability in patients with IBS-D.
Split-dose bowel preparation with polyethylene glycol solution provided a better quality preparation than the conventional method for patients undergoing early-morning colonoscopy.
BACKGROUND/AIMS: Antibiotic resistance and poor compliance are the main causes of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication failure. Proton pump inhibitor (PPI)-based triple therapy is the most preferred regimen in clinical practice. However, a critical fall in the H. pylori eradication rate has been observed in the recent years. A novel 10 day-sequential therapy consists of five days of dual therapy followed by five days of triple therapy regimen has recently been described. We aimed to evalu
AIM: To compare the risk of developing advanced colorectal neoplasm (ACRN) according to age in Koreans. METHODS: A total of 70428 Koreans from an occupational cohort who underwent a colonoscopy between 2003 and 2012 at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital were retrospectively selected. We evaluated and compared odds ratios (OR) for ACRN between the young-adults (YA < 50 years) and in the older-adults (OA ≥ 50 years). ACRN was defined as an adenoma ≥ 10 mm in diameter, adenoma with any component of villous h
