研究室紹介
Professor Woo-suk Lee's research lab focuses on regenerative medicine and orthopedic surgery, particularly investigating the clinical efficacy and safety of mesenchymal stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis. The lab also explores the role of nutritional factors—such as vitamin D—on post-surgical recovery following total knee arthroplasty. Additionally, the lab contributes to biomedical engineering through the development of smart home automation systems that integrate wireless protocols like ZigBee and KNX for healthcare applications.

15Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have been the focus of an emerging treatment for osteoarthritis. However, few studies reported about outcomes of an intra-articular injection of autologous adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs). This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of a single intra-articular injection of AD-MSCs for patients with knee osteoarthritis. It was a prospective double-blinded, randomized controlled, phase IIb clinical trial. AD-MSCs were administered for 12 patien
The incidence of symptomatic PE and DVT after TKA without prophylaxis is low in Asian countries and has not changed over time, despite Westernizing lifestyles and an aging populace. Further investigation with large randomized studies is necessary to confirm our findings and identify risk factors predisposing to DVT.
PURPOSE: Vitamin D has received considerable attention in recent years owing to the increasing evidence of its importance in muscle function and physical performance. The present study attempted to determine whether patients with low serum vitamin D levels had impairment in early functional outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). METHODS: (25(OH)D) levels <12 ng/mL; (2) vitamin D non-deficient group, serum 25(OH)D levels ≥12 ng/mL. American Knee Society Score (KSS) and four other perfo
The demand for wireless technology in home automation systems has recently been increasing due to several advantages such as installation cost reduction, easy placement, easy extension, aesthetic benefits, and mobile device connectivity. BACKGROUND: The cause of early septic failure after two-stage exchange revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for chronic periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) and the factors affecting it are not well known. The purpose of this study was to determine the surgical outcomes and the risk factors for early septic failure after two-stage revision TKA for chronic PJI. METHODS: We identified a total of 246 adult patients who met the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS) diagnostic criteria for chron
PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate stress shielding of anatomical tibial components (ATCs) in comparison to conventional symmetric tibial components (STCs) in Korean patients which may be related to medial tibial bone loss. METHOD: 78 knees in 59 patients with ATCs (Persona™) and 74 knees in 58 patients with STCs (NexGen LPS-Flex™) were retrospectively reviewed. Radiographic parameters and clinical outcomes in both groups were compared. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identif
Current clinical applications of mesenchymal stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis lack consistency because there are no established criteria for clinical processes. We aimed to systematically organize stem cell treatment methods by reviewing the literature. The treatment methods used in 27 clinical trials were examined and reviewed. The clinical processes were separated into seven categories: cell donor, cell source, cell preparation, delivery methods, lesion preparation, concomitant procedures,
Ambient energy harvesting is a well-known technique in wireless sensing systems. To minimize energy consumption, such systems are typically designed to be heavily duty-cycled with long idle times and are characteristically lightweight in computation. Often, these systems contain a dedicated energy harvesting transducer that is independent of the sensing sub-system. As a result, any output energy from the sensor ends up being unused (and hence, lost) when the system is in idle state. This work pr
PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between pelvic sagittal parameters and acetabular labral tears. METHODS: Three-hundred and sixty-five patients (449 hips) who underwent magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or magnetic resonance arthrogram (MRA) for hip pain were enrolled in this study. Pelvic sagittal parameters, including the pelvic incidence, pelvic tilt, and sacral slope, were measured with a standing lumbosacral lateral radiograph. All subjects were divided into
Monitoring of bladder pressure, known as cystometry, is a key diagnostic tool in urodynamic studies of patients that exhibit lower urinary tract symptoms. Over the past few years, there has been an increased interest in ambulatory urodynamics due to the increased convenience and more realistic monitoring environment. This paper presents an ultra-low power implantable wireless platform, UP-Link, for long-term ambulatory bladder pressure monitoring. The proposed platform, which is built using off-
This study aimed to determine the factors related to intraoperative extension gap (EG) in patients who underwent posterior-stabilized total knee arthroplasty (TKA). A total of 106 TKAs in 84 patients were retrospectively reviewed. Only patients who underwent the same method of bone resection were included consecutively. Bilateral popliteal angle (BPA) was used as an indicator of hamstring tightness. EG and extension space angle were measured using an offset type tensor. The associations between
