Professor Yong-Il Kim's research lab specializes in biomaterials and regenerative medicine, with a focus on developing advanced nanomaterials for dental and gastrointestinal applications. The lab investigates bioactive glass-based composites and dendrimer-coated nanoparticles for treating dentin hypersensitivity, preventing white spot lesions in orthodontics, and promoting tissue regeneration. Key research directions include ion-releasing materials, dentinal tubule occlusion, and the design of multifunctional biomaterials for clinical use in dentistry and oncology.

15Fifteen cases of inflammatory fibroid polyps (IFPs) of the gastrointestinal tract were subjected to histopathologic analysis. Six of them were from the small intestines and the remainder from the stomach. Their size ranged from 0.2 to 12.0 cm in maximum cross-section. We report the synthesis of KNbO(3) nanowires (NWs) with a monoclinic phase, a phase not observed in bulk KNbO(3) materials. The monoclinic NWs can be synthesized via a hydrothermal method using metallic Nb as a precursor. The NWs are metastable, and thermal treatment at ∼450 °C changed the monoclinic phase into the orthorhombic phase, which is the most stable phase of KNbO(3) at room temperature. Extracutaneous glomus tumors are unusual and their occurrence in the trachea has been recognized with extreme rarity. We present a case of surgically resected glomus tumor of the trachea in a 54-year-old woman who was initially misdiagnosed as having bronchial asthma because of expiratory wheezing. Bone SPECT/CT is more useful than conventional bone scintigraphy in identifying sacroiliitis in early axial SpA patients, even with mild SI joint changes in plain radiography. By combining CT, we can accurately delineate the sacrum and SI joint uptake with our VOI method.

LN metastasis is an independent factor of survival and the number of retrieved LNs significantly relate to the long-term survival benefit in node metastatic EGC. Also, our data suggest that the retrieval of at least 15 LNs may not be sufficient to warrant recommendation for more curative surgery, and that qualified LN dissection should be considered if LN metastasis is in doubt, even in EGC.
