研究室紹介
Professor Yongjin Kim's research lab focuses on advanced materials and biological systems at the intersection of biomedicine, nanotechnology, and spintronics. Key research directions include microRNA regulation in ovarian follicle development and oocyte maturation, sex steroid hormone signaling in muscle maintenance and sarcopenia, and the development of biocompatible heart valve prostheses using modified fixation techniques. The lab also investigates magnetic skyrmions and spin-orbit torque in novel heterostructures for next-generation spintronic devices.

15STUDY QUESTION: Do microRNAs (miRNAs) in granulosa cells (GCs) affect oocyte maturation during ovarian follicle development? SUMMARY ANSWER: Sophisticated regulation by miRNAs in ovarian GCs may improve oocyte maturation efficiency during ovarian follicle development. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The meiotic competence of oocytes depends on the follicle's potential to undergo appropriate maturation and is an important factor in infertility therapies such as IVF. The exact function of the GCs during fo
Sex steroids influence the maintenance and growth of muscles. Decline in androgens, estrogens and progesterone by aging leads to the loss of muscular function and mass, sarcopenia. These steroid hormones can interact with different signaling pathways through their receptors. To date, sex steroid hormone receptors and their exact roles are not completely defined in skeletal and smooth muscles. Although numerous studies focused on the effects of sex steroid hormones on different types of cells, st
OBJECTIVE: Glutaraldehdye (GA)-fixed xenografts are widely used in cardiovascular surgery. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anticalcification effect of glycine treatment and high-concentration GA fixation in organic solvent on GA-fixed bovine pericardium, and to evaluate the possible synergistic effect of combined treatment. METHODS: Bovine pericardial tissues were divided into four groups according to the methods of treatment. Group 1 consisted of tissues fixed with 0.5% GA (cont
OBJECTIVES: There is no consensus on whether restarting TNF inhibitors (TNFis) after treatment of an active tuberculosis (TB) infection caused by previous TNFi exposure is safe. In this study we sought to determine the safety of resuming TNFis in patients following TB treatment. METHODS: The medical records of all patients (n = 683) that received TNFi treatment at a single rheumatology clinic between June 2003 and December 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Among them, data from patients who de
Magnetic skyrmions are stable spin textures with quasi-particle behavior and attract significant interest in fundamental and applied physics. The metastability of magnetic skyrmions at zero magnetic field is particularly important to enable, for instance, a skyrmion racetrack memory. Here, the results of the nucleation of stable skyrmions and formation of ordered skyrmion lattices by magnetic force microscopy in (Pt/CoFeSiB/W)n multilayers, exploiting the additive effect of the interfacial Dzyal
Abstract The spin–orbit torque (SOT) resulting from a spin current generated in a nonmagnetic transition metal layer offers a promising magnetization switching mechanism for spintronic devices. To fully exploit this mechanism, in practice, materials with high SOT efficiencies are indispensable. Moreover, new materials need to be compatible with semiconductor processing. This study introduces W–Ta and W–V alloy layers between nonmagnetic β-W and ferromagnetic CoFeB layers in β-W/CoFeB/MgO/Ta hete
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a widely used fertility treatment for couples with male and/or non-male factor infertility and is a relatively simple and inexpensive procedure. When used for unexplained infertility, IUI combined with ovarian stimulation increases the pregnancy rates, but evidence does not support this to be true when applied for male factor infertility. Recently, the revised World Health Organization laboratory manual for semen criteria provided a new insight for practical gu
The expression profile of microRNA (miRNA) in uterine leiomyoma (UL) cells is different from that in normal uterine myometrial (UM) cells. The effect of UL cells on uterine receptivity might vary according to their ability to distort the uterine endometrial cavity. However, the variation in miRNA expression profiles between endometrial cavity-distorting leiomyoma (ECDL) and endometrial cavity non-distorting leiomyoma (ECNDL) cells remains unknown. This study aimed to elucidate whether the expres
In vitro culture of ovarian follicles is a promising bioengineering technique for retrieving fertilizable oocytes from preserved ovarian tissues of cancer survivors. However, current in vitro follicle culture techniques are labour-intensive and of low efficiency, as only single follicle culture (SFC) has been possible to date. The present study investigated the feasibility of multifollicular cluster culture (MFCC) system using angiotensin II receptor (ATII-Rc) analogues. Ovarian pre-antral folli
Abstract The switching of magnetization via spin‐orbit torque has attracted much attention because of its fast switching and low power consumption. Numerous studies have focused on increasing the conversion efficiency from charge to spin current and out‐of‐plane magnetization cases. Recently, there have been reports on the fast and deterministic switching of in‐plane magnetization devices. It is reported that an in‐plane spin‐orbit torque (SOT) device can archive the oscillation, precession, and
