Professor Yoon Hee Choi's research lab focuses on molecular mechanisms underlying chronic diseases, particularly polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and cancer epidemiology. The lab investigates ciliary signaling pathways, especially the role of adenylyl cyclase and cAMP regulation in renal epithelial cells, and explores the pathophysiological basis of central sensitivity syndromes. Additionally, the lab conducts population-based studies on cancer mortality trends and health policy analysis, including cost-effectiveness of surgical interventions. These interdisciplinary efforts bridge molecular biology, clinical medicine, and public health research.

15Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder that is characterized by cyst formation in kidney tubules. PKD arises from abnormalities of the primary cilium, a sensory organelle located on the cell surface. The lung cancer mortality in Korea has increased remarkably during the last 20 yr, and, it has become the first leading cause of cancer-related deaths since 2000. In this study, the mortality pattern of breast cancer in Korea can be explained predominantly by a birth cohort effect. Hence, the overall mortality rate of breast cancer may increase for a while, and show a gradual decrease in the future, which will start from the younger age group.
