Antifungal Drug Resistance: Molecular Mechanisms in Candida albicans and Beyond
Yunjin Lee, Emily Puumala, Nicole Robbins, Leah E. Cowen
SJR Q1Chemical ReviewsOA

Fungal infections are a major contributor to infectious disease-related deaths across the globe. Candida species are among the most common causes of invasive mycotic disease, with Candida albicans reigning as the leading cause of invasive candidiasis. Given that fungi are eukaryotes like their human host, the number of unique molecular targets that can be exploited for antifungal development remains limited. Currently, there are only three major classes of drugs approved for the treatment of inv

npj Antimicrobials and ResistanceOA

Abstract Fungal pathogens are a severe public health problem. The leading causative agents of systemic fungal infections include species from the Candida , Cryptococcus , and Aspergillus genera. As opportunistic pathogens, these fungi are generally harmless in healthy hosts; however, they can cause significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Despite the profound impact of pathogenic fungi on global human health, the current antifungal armamentarium is limited to only three

Line drawings via abstracted shading
Yunjin Lee, Lee Markosian, Seungyong Lee, John F. Hughes

We describe a GPU-based algorithm for rendering a 3D model as a line drawing, based on the insight that a line drawing can be understood as an abstraction of a shaded image. We thus render lines along tone boundaries or thin dark areas in the shaded image. We extend this notion to the dual: we render highlight lines along thin bright areas and tone boundaries. We combine the lines with toon shading to capture broad regions of tone.

Intelligent mesh scissoring using 3D snakes
Yunjin Lee, Seungyong Lee, Ariel Shamir

Mesh partitioning and parts extraction have become key ingredients for many mesh manipulation applications both manual and automatic. In this paper, we present an intelligent scissoring operator for meshes which supports both automatic segmentation and manual cutting. Instead of segmenting the mesh by clustering, our approach concentrates on finding and defining the contours for cutting. This approach is based on the minima rule, which states that human perception usually divides a surface into

SJR Q2Experimental NeurobiologyOA

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) have altered gut microbiota, which appears to regulate ASD symptoms via gut microbiota-brain interactions. Rapid assessment of gut microbiota profiles in ASD individuals in varying physiological contexts is important to understanding the role of the microbiota in regulating ASD symptoms. Microbiomes secrete extracellular membrane vesicles (EVs) to communicate with host cells and secreted EVs are widely distributed throughout the body including the

SJR Q2Experimental NeurobiologyOA

A number of specific genetic variants including gene mutations and single nucleotide variations have been identified in genomewide association studies of autism spectrum disorder (ASD).ASD phenotypes in individuals carrying specific genetic variations are manifest mostly in a heterozygous state.Furthermore, individuals with most genetic variants show incomplete penetrance and phenotypic variability, suggesting that non-genetic factors are also involved in developing ASD.However, the mechanisms o

http://dx.doi.org/10.16881/jss.2015.07.26.3.3
