Professor Yoonkyung Kim's research lab focuses on infectious diseases in pediatric populations, with a strong emphasis on antimicrobial resistance, viral pathogenesis, and the impact of public health interventions on childhood infections. The lab investigates the molecular epidemiology of multidrug-resistant bacteria such as ESBL-producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae, as well as respiratory viruses like hMPV and RSV, using molecular diagnostics and phylogenetic analysis. Additionally, the lab explores host stress responses in disease pathogenesis, including the role of heat shock proteins in cardiac injury. The integration of clinical microbiology with public health surveillance enables a comprehensive understanding of infectious disease trends in children, especially under pandemic conditions.

To define the role of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) in previously healthy Korean children, a retrospective study was done on 166 children with lower respiratory tract infections and on their stored nasal aspirates. The hMPV gene was detected by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Twenty-six of 166 individuals tested positive for hMPV. The clinical diagnoses of hMPV infection were pneumonia in 15 children and bronchiolitis in 11 children.

[Purpose] This study identified correlations among occupational stress, fatigue, and depression in call center employees in South Korea. [Subjects and Methods] This study consisted of 150 call center workers. A cross-sectional design was adopted. Tools including the Effort-Reward Imbalance, Checklist Individual Strength, and Depression scales were used to measure levels of stress, fatigue, and depression.
