研究室紹介
Professor Youme Kim's research lab focuses on environmental and materials science, with a strong emphasis on air quality dynamics, atmospheric chemistry, and the development of advanced materials for clean energy applications. The lab investigates the impacts of meteorological conditions and emissions on urban air pollution, particularly in megacities like Seoul, using long-term monitoring and advanced data analysis. It also explores the degradation mechanisms of critical components in solid oxide fuel cells, especially chromium poisoning in BSCF cathodes, aiming to improve the durability and efficiency of clean energy technologies. Additionally, the lab examines biological aging processes, particularly the interplay between circadian rhythms and leaf senescence in plants, highlighting the broader implications for life history strategies and stress responses.

15Human ageing is a fundamental biological process that leads to functional decay, increased risk for various diseases and, ultimately, death. Some of the basic biological mechanisms underlying human ageing are shared with other organisms; thus, animal models have been invaluable in providing key mechanistic and molecular insights into the common bases of biological ageing. In this Review, we briefly summarise the major applications of the most commonly used model organisms adopted in ageing resea
Abstract. Together with emissions of air pollutants and precursors, meteorological conditions play important roles in local air quality through accumulation or ventilation, regional transport, and atmospheric chemistry. In this study, we extensively investigated multi-timescale meteorological effects on the urban air pollution using the long-term measurements data of PM10, SO2, NO2, CO, and O3 and meteorological variables over the period of 1999–2016 in Seoul, South Korea. The long-term air qual
Abstract. The air quality of the megacities in populated and industrialized regions like East Asia is affected by both local and regional emission sources. The combined effect of regional transport and local emissions on multiday haze was investigated through a synthetic analysis of PM2. 5 sampled at both an urban site in Seoul, South Korea and an upwind background site on Deokjeok Island over the Yellow Sea during a severe multiday haze episode in late February 2014. Inorganic components and ca
As most organisms age, their appearance, physiology, and behaviour alters as part of a life history strategy that maximizes their fitness over their lifetime. The passage of time is measured by organisms and is used to modulate these age-related changes. Organisms have an endogenous time measurement system called the circadian clock. This endogenous clock regulates many physiological responses throughout the life history of organisms to enhance their fitness. However, little is known about the r
Chromium deposition and poisoning at Ba 0.5 Sr 0.5 Co 0.8 Fe 0.2 O 3-δ (BSCF) cathodes of solid oxide fuel cells are investigated. BSCF cathode shows an excellent and stable performance in the absence of metallic interconnects. However, in the presence of a chromia-forming metallic interconnect performance of the BSCF cathodes degrades quickly. Chromium deposition was observed on the BSCF cathode surface after 1200 min polarization at 900 and 800°C. The Cr 2 O 3 /SrO and Cr 2 O 3 /BaCO 3 oxide c
In the original article, there was a mistake in Figure 1 as published. It was found that the graph in Fig. 1(H) was duplicated in Fig. 1(C). So, the duplicated graph was deleted and the missing graph of Figure 1(C) was inserted. The corrected Figure 1 appears below. The authors apologize for this error and state that this does not change the scientific conclusions of the article in any way. The original article has been updated.
Microbially induced calcium carbonate precipitation (MICP) is a bio-geochemical process involving calcium carbonate precipitation and possible co-precipitation of other metals. The study investigated the extent to which a urease-positive bacterium, Sporosarcina pasteurii , can tolerate a range of metals (e.g., Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd, and Sr), and analyzed the role of calcium carbonate bioprecipitation in eliminating these divalent toxicants from aqueous solutions. The experiments using S. pasteurii were
The effect of strontium content on Cr deposition and poisoning in barium strontium cobalt ferrite electrodes, Ba1−xSrxCo0.8Fe0.2O3−δ (BSCF, 0.3 ≤ x ≤ 0.7), was investigated at 900°C for 20 h with a cathodic polarization of 200 mA cm−2. In contrast to the superb and stable electrochemical performance of the BSCF electrodes without interconnects, electrode polarization resistance and overpotential (RE and η) were found to increase for the O2 reduction reaction on BSCF electrodes in the presence of
The oxygen reduction mechanism of dense mixed-conducting (LSCF) electrodes with various Sr contents was investigated by employing ac-impedance spectroscopy and potentiostatic current transient (PCT) technique. From the analyses of the ac-impedance spectra and the cathodic PCTs measured on the electrodes as functions of electrode thickness and oxygen partial pressure , it is confirmed that the overall oxygen reduction reaction mainly proceeds by oxygen vacancy diffusion through the electrode coup
Recycling electronic waste is an important subject not only from the point of view of waste treatment, but also regarding the recovery of valuable metals. This research examined the stepwise recovery of metals in mobile phone waste using chemical treatment via pH swing and the biological method using biomineralization. In chemical treatment, the metal fraction attached to the printed circuit board (PCB) and camera parts were separated from the mobile phone waste and were then pulverized into par
