Professor Young Ah Lee's research lab focuses on pediatric endocrine oncology and developmental health, with a strong emphasis on understanding the molecular genetics of pediatric thyroid cancers—particularly papillary and follicular thyroid cancer—and their distinct biological behaviors compared to adult-onset disease. The lab investigates genetic drivers such as fusion oncogenes and point mutations, as well as environmental influences like early-life exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and vitamin D deficiency, which may impact pediatric thyroid cancer risk and long-term outcomes.
