研究室紹介

Professor Young-Duk Cho's research lab specializes in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases, with a strong focus on advanced endoscopic and radiological imaging techniques for diagnosis and intervention. The lab investigates biomarkers such as AFP, AFP-L3, and PIVKA-II for early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma, and explores the role of intraductal ultrasound (IDUS) and MRCP in biliary pancreatitis and pancreatic neoplasms. The lab also examines inflammatory mechanisms in post-cardiac arrest syndrome using in vitro neutrophil models, highlighting its interest in ischemia-reperfusion injury and immune response. Additionally, the lab contributes to trauma imaging, particularly the use of IV-contrast CT in detecting hollow viscus injuries after blunt abdominal trauma.

Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), Lens culinaris-agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP (AFP-L3), and protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II (PIVKA-II) are widely used as tumor markers for the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study compared the diagnostic values of AFP, AFP-L3, and PIVKA-II individually and in combination to find the best biomarker or biomarker panel.Seventy-nine patients with newly diagnosed HCC and 77 non-HCC control patients with liver cirrhosis were enrol

The inflammatory response of neutrophils in an in vitro model that approximates the postcardiac arrest state
조영덕, 박성준, 최성혁, 윤영훈, 김정윤, 이성우, 임채승

Purpose: Postcardiac arrest syndrome (PCAS) shares many features with sepsis including plasma cytokine elevation with dysregulation of cytokine production, and the presence of endotoxin in plasma. PCAS is closely related to ischemia-reperfusion injury. During ischemia-reperfusion injury, neutrophil, which is the first line of innate immunity, plays a major role. In this study, we investigated the inflammatory response of human neutrophils in an in vitro model which we simulated with hypoxia-norm

Unfortunately, only a minority of patients with pancreatic cancers are suitable for resection and potential cure. Despite recent advances in systemic treatment of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, the prognosis still remains poor. The median survival of patients in whom pancreatic cancers are surgically unresectable is 6 months. Thus, optimal palliation of symptoms to maximize remaining quality of life is of primary importance to most patients. Common problems include pain, unexplained w

Target cells differentiation techniques from stem cells are developed rapidly. Recently, direct conversion techniques are introduced in various categories. Unlike pluripotent stem cells, this technique enables direct differentiation into the other cell types such as neurons, cardiomyocytes, insulin-producing cells, and hepatocytes without going through the pluripotent stage. However, the function of these converted cells reserve an immature phenotype. Therefore, we modified the culture condition
