研究室紹介
Professor Young-Tae Jeon's research lab specializes in critical care medicine and perioperative medicine, with a focus on optimizing sedation strategies, improving outcomes in neurosurgical and orthopedic patients, and identifying predictive biomarkers for postoperative complications. The lab investigates the clinical efficacy of anesthetic agents, timing of interventions such as tracheostomy, and the prognostic value of inflammatory markers like C-reactive protein in elderly and critically ill patients. Key research directions include patient-controlled sedation, prevention of post-anesthesia shivering, and hemodynamic predictors during spinal anesthesia.

The aim of this study was to compare the clinical efficacy of propofol/ketamine with propofol/alfentanil for patient-controlled sedation (PCS) during fiberoptic bronchoscopy. METHOD: Patients undergoing fiberoptic bronchoscopy were randomly assigned to receive either propofol/alfentanil (PA group; n = 138) or propofol/ketamine (PK group; n = 1
BACKGROUND: The optimal timing of tracheostomy in neurosurgical patients is not well established. This retrospective study was conducted to determine the effect of the timing of tracheostomy on clinical outcome in mechanically ventilated neurosurgical patients admitted to the surgical intensive care unit (ICU). METHODS: A total of 125 neurosurgical patients, who underwent tracheostomy and had total mechanical ventilation (MV) duration of ≥7 days from October 2007 to December 2011, were enrolled.
Numerous factors are associated with mortality after hip fracture surgery in elderly patients. The aim of this study was to investigate whether preoperative C-reactive protein (CRP) was an independent risk factor for 1-year mortality after hip fracture surgery in the elderly. The electronic medical records of 772 elderly patients (age ≥ 65 years) undergoing hip fracture surgery from May 2003 to November 2011 were reviewed retrospectively. The patients comprised a high CRP group (>10.0 mg/dL) and
Postoperative CRP, especially CRP POD1-2, can be a useful prognostic factor for both poor outcome and symptomatic vasospasm in patients with aneurysmal SAH.
BACKGROUND: After general or epidural anesthesia, clonidine is known to be effective in suppressing established shivering. The aim of this study was to assess the preventive effect of intrathecal clonidine on post-spinal shivering compared with intravenous (i.v.) clonidine. METHODS: One hundred and fifty patients scheduled for orthopedic surgery were randomly allocated into three groups to receive either 1 microg/kg clonidine i.v. (IV group) or the same volume of isotonic saline (control and IT
Dendritic cells play an essential role in bridging innate and adaptive immunity by recognizing cellular stress including pathogen- and damage-associated molecular patterns and by shaping the types of antigen-specific T cell immunity. Although lidocaine is widely used in clinical settings that trigger cellular stress, it remains unclear whether such treatment impacts the activation of innate immune cells and subsequent differentiation of T cells. Here we showed that lidocaine inhibited the produc
A preoperative increase in blood pressure after position change may be a good variable to predict hypotension during spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery.
: Impact of anesthetics on IOP during laparoscopic surgery may change depending on the surgical position. For the laparoscopic surgery performed in the head-down position, propofol may be more helpful in preventing ocular hypertension.
We aimed to investigate whether statin therapy is associated with the incidence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) among the South Korean population. In addition, we examined whether statin therapy affects hospital mortality among COVID-19 patients. The National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)-COVID-19 database in South Korea was used for data extraction for this population-based cohort study. A total of 122,040 adult individuals, with 22,633 (18.5%) in the statin therapy group and 101,697 (
BACKGROUND: It has been reported that the direction of the guidewire J-tip is associated with misplacement of a central venous catheter. We hypothesized that real-time ultrasound-guided infraclavicular subclavian venous cannulation would be less influenced by the direction of guidewire J-tip compared to landmark method. METHODS: Sixty adult patients who required subclavian venous catheterization for neurosurgery were enrolled in this prospective randomized controlled study. Patients were randoml
BACKGROUND: Postoperative hyperchloremia is known to be related to increases in mortality and morbidity after surgery. However, the relationship between preoperative hyperchloremia and hypochloremia and postoperative mortality and morbidity is not well established. Our aim was to evaluate the relationship between preoperative hyperchloremia or hypochloremia, as assessed using preoperative serum chloride tests, and 90-day mortality and morbidity after noncardiac surgery. METHODS: In this retrospe
