Professor Yuntae Jin's research lab focuses on gastrointestinal diseases, particularly inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and ulcerative colitis, with an emphasis on understanding disease mechanisms, identifying genetic and immunological factors, and evaluating therapeutic interventions. The lab investigates patient-specific responses to biologic therapies such as infliximab, explores optimal bowel preparation methods for colonoscopy, and examines treatment regimens for gastric cancer and complications like terlipressin-induced hyponatremia. BACKGROUND/AIMS: Infliximab is currently used for the treatment of moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis (UC) with an inadequate response to conventional agents. The efficacy and safety of infliximab in Korean patients with UC were assessed. METHODS: This was a retrospective multicenter study including all adult patients who received at least one infliximab infusion for UC. Short- and long-term clinical outcomes and adverse events of infliximab therapy were evaluated, and predictors of response
PEG-Asc plus simethicone use was more effective and associated with better patient and endoscopist tolerance than PEG-Asc use. Therefore, this combination is recommended as one of the promising methods for bowel preparation before colonoscopy.
The authors conclude that epirubicin, cisplatin, and oral UFT plus leucovorin, a convenient regimen, has a significant activity and tolerable toxicities in patients with gastric carcinoma.
